I laughed and cried through this wonderful love story about a woman and her dog. A skillfully woven memoir - the deep connection between these two beings is the thread that pulls us from chapter to chapter of a woman's life. This story is rich, beautiful and entertaining. Be sure to read the chapter about the rats!

Chantelle Hildreth's background as an attorney and also as a professor of art history may be one of the reasons she is able to make this book work so well. Quite simply, it is the story of a relationship between a dog and owner and as such it may just put off readers as a self-indulgent memoir. But stop there. This book is anything BUT a narcissistic memoir - Hildreth is far too fine a writer for that. Yes, this book is filled with photos of her beloved Boris, and yes we are treated to the highs, the humors and the strong bonding between Hildreth and Boris. But this reader began to see the implications of this story being a means of studying relationships in general. In allowing us to becoming very familiar with Hildreth as a person and then transferring that information to her bonding with Boris the author offers a sound book about interpersonal relationships, coping with loss, and the process of growing with every experience that comes our way.

ONCE IN A LIFETIME DOG, MY BORISANGEL will most assuredly appeal to dog lovers of every kind, but it is also a fine book for those of us who no longer have a dog for one reason or another, allowing all those wondrous memories to surge forth again. And there is a lot to recommend going there - courtesy of both Hildreth and Boris! Grady Harp, January 11

Chantelle Hildreth's book, "Once in A Lifetime Dog: My Borisangel," is a very touching memoir that has the reader experience a whole range of emotions while reading it.

Boris, a Russian wolfhound, is the inspiration for Hildreth's memoir as he was her best friend and with her through many stages and experiences in her life. The love and loyalty between Chantelle and Boris is evident throughout this book and the relationship between them and unconditional love is portrayed well.

Hildreth's style of writing is enjoyable to read and is easy to follow. The memories that are shared will have you laughing at some times and crying at others. It is a true love story of the love with human and dog and a pet lover of any kind will truly enjoy this book and will not want to miss!

One of the best books I have ever read ! This book will stay with me for a very, long time.
Easy to read.
It is simply a book about life, love, sacrifice, hope, unconditional love and what it means to have that "once in a lifetime"
perfect relationship.
This true story is extremely funny in parts and yes, sad in others. But what a lesson it can teach all of us, whether we love dogs, animals or not. Simply it is about life and what the true meaning of living is.
Boris is definately an angel sent from above. Not only was he here to love Chantelle, but after death is still here today teaching us all through their book.

Don't miss this one !
