5.0 out of 5 stars An introspective journey..., November 3, 2003
By
This review is from: Once In A Lifetime (Audio CD)
I have thoroughly enjoyed this CD! I was impressed with the album as a whole- from beginning to end. Every song offers an honest, personal glimpse into her life with emotional lyrics that every person can relate to. The music only adds to and supports her beautiful voice. It is a relaxing and introspective journey through life and love. I still catch myself singing "Carry On". I recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Fantastic, October 31, 2003

In a time of over-produced albums and sales based on marketing rather than beauty, Renee Snyder's album is a remarkable return to the essentials of what makes music so impactful in each of our lives. This is an album focused on beauty and simple songs that a musician enjoys singing for her own sake. Thank God that Renee has opened a window for us to her tranquil world to share moments of quiet and contentment. This beatiful lady is putting into practice the lessons taught by the masters without showing off and she lets her words, each note and line speak for itself to us. Some people need to be told what to listen for or how to listen. Once In A Lifetime speaks straight to each of us without pretention, whispers of peaceful days forgotten in todays busy world and and soothes our hurried rush, a reminder of when life was quiet and at ease.

I must say, this recording is great. In a sea of independents, it's refreshing to hear someone who takes their art seriously. From start to fisish, this CD is an example of how to do things right. My money is we will see another from this sleeper artist.

I stumbled on this recording and decided to take a chance after listening to some of the sample tracks. What can I say, what a wonderful surprise. Snyder's voice is pure silk, and the production of this entire CD is superb. A great representation of various musical styles all tied together with a rich, musical force. Great CD!!

By
This review is from: Once In A Lifetime (Audio CD)
Beautifully crafted and insightful lyrics set to attractive and memorable melodies; sung by a lovely and original voice that blends a bit of country, folk, jazz, and pop. All this backed by able and supportive musicians, free from over-production, so that the listener can clearly feel the warmth and heart of the voice and song. This CD made my day and goes to the top of my playlist. Move over Norah!

5.0 out of 5 stars Once in a lifetime you find an album this amazing., October 30, 2003
This review is from: Once In A Lifetime (Audio CD)
There are albums that are albums, then there are albums that are movies. "Once in a lifetime" falls into the latter category. The record carries itself with the elegance of Gracy Kelly flick and has the sentimental value of the first movie you ever saw when you were a child. Renee Snyder has a mature voice with a pop sensibility that allows her songs to float between various musical styles. The opening track "there's a difference" would have the most doubting jazz listener squinting his eyes while he whispers "oh yea". The next track is a soft spoken balled that in years to come married couples across the country will have a common bond because they all had their wedding band play it as they slow danced across the floor. However, the catchiest song "carry on" will force the urge into you to get into your car, slam on the gass, roll down windows, and see where the road takes you.
By the end of the album, you realize you haven't been listening to just a series of songs but rather a score to some one's life. Whether it's Renee's or a fictional being you still remain to feel like you know them all to well. You have shed tears for them, laughed with them, listened to their sorrows and their childhood memories, and like any great movie, it has a climax in the form of the track "home is in your arms", making the message of this cinematic album clear .
So what sets Renee Snyder apart from the one million other female songwriters out there, well, in Renee Snyder's words..."there's a difference".
