Tales of supernatural terror,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Once Upon a Hex (Paperback)
Once Upon A Hex: A Spiritual Ecology Of The Pennsylvania Germans is an anthology of folklore combining ghost stories from Germany's Rhine valley, Switzerland's pastoral cantons, and France's Alsace, as tales from these and more places can be found among the Pennsylvania Germans, also popularly known as the "Pennsylvania Dutch." Tales of supernatural terror, hauntings, revenge of the dead upon the living and more make for spooky and captivating reading, sure to keep one awake late at night! An engaging collection that is sure to prompt the reader to wonder how much of the mystical elements stem from the imagination.

Being from "PA Dutch County" I find these superstitions and traditions fascinating and intriguing (and some are still continued).
The only thing I found slightly bothersome about this book was entire passages written in with strong Dutch accents--I understand that is how the person talked in "real life" but it was very hard to read and bothersome to "decipher"--esp. when it went on for paragraphs. But, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone--worth the money! |
