4.0 out of 5 stars Nice smooth Jazz with much replay value!!
I say much replay value because many albums Jazz and otherwise only warrant a few listens and onto the shelf or buried deep on the hard drive.

This release by Javon Jackson is one such album that to my ears got better and better upon listenings and is now in my regular rotation.

3.0 out of 5 stars No classic, not adventurous, but allright!
No at all adventurous as many of Javon's appearances, particularly as a sideman, and far from what he is capable of. No new ground broken here, and while it's all impressively forgettable, for what it is, it's a fairly good straight ahead set of light MOR bop.

I say much replay value because many albums Jazz and otherwise only warrant a few listens and onto the shelf or buried deep on the hard drive.

This release by Javon Jackson is one such album that to my ears got better and better upon listenings and is now in my regular rotation.

Javon Jackson is a much respected saxophonist having been a member of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and toured all over the world with them, he has also worked with Freddie Hubbard, Cedar Walton, and Charlie Haden amongst others.

On this album he pays homage to Sonny Rollins and Wayne Shorter and is joined by Eric Reed on Piano, Corcoran Holt on bass, and the legendary Billy Drummond on the skins.

Very smooth jazz and the band seems so in sync that you would think they have played together for years. All in all it's highly recommended.

This recording had some interior moments but I didn't feel the artist was having any fun or that I was either. The joy was not as infectious as I hoped and it lacked authenticy.
