Once Upon A Potty for Him,
By Marisela Pennington (Pima, Arizona) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Once Upon a Potty for Him [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Having twins boys, everything was a challenge. Potty training being no exception. After trying for what seemed like forever and the twins being three years old, I was ready to give up. I purchased this video as a last resort, played it and in no time at all I had successfully potty trained my twins. I used this tape with my next child and had successfully potty trained him before the age of two!! I didn't need to push my children to learn, it just came naturally, with them wanting to mimic the video. It is a cute tape with such a catchy song,(which we sang all over town) that my children continued to watch it even after they had mastered Potty Training! There is also a parent section that has some great information and reasuring words of encouragement.I will definetly be using this tape on the grandkids!! Bring them on.....

Not so great!,

We had not read the book before purchasing this video. The babies in the video are very, very young, as in hardly up on their feet, let alone using the potty. They start with The Potty Song, the story is short and uses silly words like wee-wee and then they end with The Potty Song. The Potty Song is back to the babies playing and not making much sense. If your child is very young and uses the potty, they might relate but for my "big kid" (2 1/2 years old) this wee-lly wee-lly stunk!

Not for older potty-trainers,

A friend gave me this video hoping it would help train my reluctant 3-year-old. While he was very interested in the tape and even bopped to the song, it did not help him overall.
One, the children looked younger than 2 years old! So he did not relate on that level and kept referring to the children in the video as "babies" and "cute little babies!" Two, the potty used is not the type of potty commonly used in the United States (at least in my opinion.) The part about what a potty is "not" for became redundant and boring for a child who didn't relate to that "what is it?" to begin with. Three, the only reference to a true toilet was when Mommy poured the wee-wee into the toilet. On the other hand, I read negative reviews about seeing the 'hole' in the cartoon fanny of Joshua. Well, I want raise my child to know his body parts -- as a child well-versed in their own body and its functions is statistically less likely to be targeted by a sex offender. I didn't think this reference was a big deal, and it even helped me teach my child about that particular body function. I would only recommend this tape to those who are training children in the 1 to 2 year old range and using a similar potty. (It looks like a molded-to-underside bowl.)

Who ever thought learning to use the potty could be so fun!,

This is a terrific video for younger toddlers learning to use the potty. The story about Joshua and his potty is entertaining and shows kids just what to do. The potty song at the end is terrific with it's pictures of actual toddlers on their potties. We are still singing it at our house!

Both of my sons loved the video and the book!!,

My first son loved for us to read the book to him. Then when my second son was born I knew that I had to find the video. With our second child potty training has been very difficult. But thanks to this video, I think that it has calmed some fears and some discomforts that he had about using the potty. I highly recommend this to anyone with small children!!

This video was great in helping to introduce my 2-year old to the potty, but don't expect to buy it and have a potty trained child! Children won't potty train until they are ready, and any adult attempts to alter this instinct, will result in frustration all the way around. The song is catchy, and the concepts are clear for little children to understand. I disagree that this video is a waste of money, I found it a helpful tool to help my son to understand the "potty" concept in a child-friendly manner.

This video will get any kid to use the potty,

My son was three and still didn't want to use the potty. He tried it from time to time but always wanted his diaper back on. Just when I thought all hope was lost I checked this video out from my local library. He loved this video and it didn't hurt that his name was Joshua too just like the little boy in the video. He watched this video three times a day for two weeks and then voila ... it just happened. I couldn't have done it without this video. It's a must for any parent and child. If only we had gotten it sooner!

Nice start to potty training,

I ordered this video after I had already tried to get my son to sit on the potty. He was about 2 years old, and was exhibiting signs of readiness, but he was not interested in sitting on the potty. When the video arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see the little boy's name in the video was Joshua (same as my son!) This helped tremendously! The song does have a tendency to stay in your head all day, so be careful singing out loud! The video was not the sole reason my son learned to use the potty, but it definitely contributed to his success. I would suggest using it along with other methods (books, if your child is interested, rewards, etc.) Good luck!

This movie left us all songing the potty song, especially my son, who wanted nothing to do with potty training until he saw it!! I highly recommend it.

THIS VIDEO IS ACUTALLY ABOUT 5 MINUTES LONG. THE REST IS SHOWING KIDS DANCING AROUND POTTIES AND SITTING ON THEM WITH THEIR DIAPERS ON AND PUTTING THE POTTIES ON THEIR HEADS. I DONT RECOMMEND IT.
