5.0 out of 5 stars So good that I am buying it again!
This is an excellent video for kids. It allows you to start potty training education early by holding the attention of younger toddlers, as well as being entertaining to older children. My son loved it, and now I am buying it again for my daughter. A must have. It starts with a cartoon child getting the potty as a present. Then it shows that the child trys to use it...

3.0 out of 5 stars my daughter loves it, but I don't!
I borrowed this tape from a friend after repeatedly hearing her daughter ask to watch it. My 26-month-old now asks to watch it once or twice a day. She LOVES it. She quotes it all the time (and I'm getting sick of hearing "Was it a milk bowl for the cat?"), loves the babies and the music on it. She also understands what Prudence is doing in the video. This is an excellent video for kids. It allows you to start potty training education early by holding the attention of younger toddlers, as well as being entertaining to older children. My son loved it, and now I am buying it again for my daughter. A must have. It starts with a cartoon child getting the potty as a present. Then it shows that the child trys to use it many ways, until they learn through a series of accidents and successes how to use the potty. They make sure to stress that accidents will happen, and this is ok. Then the video changes to a catchy tune showing real children dancing to the music and sitting on their potties. It is amazing how quickly they start singing with the video while sitting on their own potty for more than 5 minutes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Money well spent, time well saved, progress well made., May 12, 1999

The video(s) is/are an animated version of the book(s) by the same title. The animation pleasingly embellishes the book version--takes things one step further in terms of humor and the expressions and actions of the characters. The video also contains catchy songs, scenes with actual toddlers and clever artsy backgrounds, which totally capture my 27 mo. old's attention. She loves this video with a passion and is advanced as a result. So are wee wee.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Inspiration to little girls, August 11, 2000

I bought this video last year when my older daughter (then 2 1/2yrs) had stalled at potty training. Immediately after she watched this video we started to see results. She insisted on watching it many times over the course of the day and even made me learn "the Potty Song" so I could sing it to her. (And the song is kind of catchy.) Now that my younger daughter (at 2yrs old) has shown an interest in training, she too has fallen under the spell of Prudence. Both girls love to dance to the music and point to the babies they see in the beginning of the video. I had thought that with my younger daughter's health condition (Leukemia) she wouldn't want to potty train now, but the video has helped her get into the mood.

Buy this video!

5.0 out of 5 stars HIGHLY EFFECTIVE POTTY TRAINING TOOL!!!, August 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Once Upon a Potty for Her [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My 22 mos. old daughter has the Bear in the Big Blue House Potty Training Video and this one, and this video is the ONLY one she really grasped the concept from...she found Bear very entertaining, but did not grasp the training idea behind the story...with this video, however, she picked up on the idea right away and LOVED the characters, story and songs!!! My daughter RARELY sits still, yet she sits spellbound and mezmerized by this video 2x/day...after watching the video, she heads straight for her potty with curiousity and enthusiasm!!! INVALUABLE POTTY TRAINING TOOL!!! THIS VIDEO IS ESSENTIAL!!!

Although the kids' portion of the video is short, my daughter thoroughly enjoys it.

As for me, I doubt this video is helping my daughter with her potty training. My daughter was already having some potty success before we got the video, and I don't see her more inspired to go potty since. She never mentions the video when she goes potty. Also, the terminology "wee wee," "poo poo," etc. is different than what my daughter and I -- and the rest of our friends -- use, which doesn't help us with consistency.

I also wish the video addressed on my daughter's level other issues associated with potty training -- stopping play to go potty, buying "big girl" underpants (you see Prudence in them at the end but there's really no mention of what they are), etc. Covering these topics would be more valuable than the doctor's portion of the video, which covers information that anyone who has already started potty training already knows.

In short, I'm glad I didn't pay money for this video. And even though I don't care for it, my daughter loves it and it's for her, not for me, so we will keep watching it....

This review is from: Once Upon a Potty for Her [VHS] (VHS Tape)
After watching this video one time, my 2 1/2 year old was ready to use the potty. Now at 3 she still enjoys watching the video and singing the potty song. I am so glad this video was referred to me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Daughter likes it but I sure don't, November 7, 2003
This review is from: Once Upon a Potty for Her [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video is only 13 minutes from the start to the end of the children's part. That 13 minutes includes a lengthy musical introduction, the story, The Potty Song (which is amazingly catchy and amazingly annoying--stuck in my head for a whole week--I woke from SLEEP singing it!), and then the end credits, which are quite lengthy, and in which the babies from the Potty Song are pictured and named. The copyright is in 1990, but I am positive the video was made much earlier than that. The animation is cheap and very old styled. The font used in the end credits is PAC-MAN! which to me, puts it back around '83. I bought this video solely based on the opinions of other Amazon-ers, but would buy something newer, something longer, something more detailed than this if I had it to do over. My daugher likes it, but I'm sure she'd have liked a newer one as well, and might have learned more (how to pull down pants, etc.) had we gotten another video. Plus I wouldn't have this annoying song going through my head!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Video!, May 14, 2002

I bought this video for my 3-1/2yr. old daughter who is mildly autistic. We had been trying to get her potty trained for sometime with no success. When we first watched the video she was immediately interested in using her potty. This was the first potty training tool that actually showed what went into the potty. Since my daughter is a visual thinker it helped for her to see exactly what to do. I highly recommend this video to all. I'm even going to buy the little boy video for my son.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected, April 27, 2005
This review is from: Once Upon a Potty for Her [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I agree with many of the semi-negative reviews on this video.
I was shocked at the copyright date of 1990 as I would have put this video around 1984. The potties look ancient! The kids have to straddle them. The kids sitting on them look no more than 18 months old and have diapers on. Who told the writers of "The Potty Song" that kids call urine "wee wee"? My daughter was like "uh what's that?"
Prudence only uses the potty once and it is pee and poo all at once. She is naked when she uses it, doesn't wipe herself or wash her hands.
My daughter mostly laughed at the babies running around and placing potties on their heads (oh yeah, that's educational) and that crazy song they are dancing to that is stuck in my head ALL DAY at work.
I think it's time for a new generation video that is a little more PC shall we say than this is.
