Ah, a christian group that isn't afraid to put Christ into the lyrics. Like SDS's previous album, "Picking up the Pieces", you get hints of things gone wrong, and how Jesus helped them through their troubles.
The track "I Believe" was a rework of a song from the 25th Chapter album. When taken together, they're very effective. Lyrics that were once "I want to believe in something", have become "I Believe in Jesus" There's a very powerful message there, once all the lyrics start to register. It's really too bad that the original song wasn't snuck on this cd too. Musically, these guys remind me of slightly softer version of Kutless. A few songs were a little slow for my tastes, but that might be because I've been listening to too much 80/90s metal lately. The "enhanced" portion of this cd is a weblink to the BEC homepage. That's it. Nothing special there.

If you like any of their previous cds, you will really enjoy this one. There is not one bad song on this entire disc. The production on this album puts the sound far above their previous releases. The songs range from soft rock to heavy. So, no matter what you like, you will definitley find something you like on this disc.

Good but not great,

I recently saw Seventh Day Slumber at a Skillet concert in Knoxville, TN. I bought there CD when I was there and I thought they were great at the show and very hard rock and sounded like 12 Stones or Demon Hunter but when I bought there CD I found the studio found them more sounding like Kutless or Everyday Sunday. That isn't at all a bad thing just not what I expected. After I got over that I found it to be a very good album the only thing I thought it was missing was that one great song that makes the CD complete. Its a bunch of average to good songs but its missing that one really good song that completes the package on a good album. It sounds to me like a collection of B-Sides. Still very good and I would recommed it to any Christian Rock fan who likes music in the middle between say Kutless and Skillet there right in the middle.

O.K. here's coming from a 30 year old life long metal head; buy this album. I love heavy metal but the lyrics of typical heavy metal are often harsh (not always) but it's nice to be able to include some pros into my music without compromising the heavy metal music that I like so much. It's positive heavy metal, go figure. But please if you grew up in the 80's, don't even think about this band being another Stryper, oh no, not even close. If you have kids who like heavy metal, slip this into their CD player...I know I did.

Awesome follow-up to their first major release! I loved "Picking Up the Pieces," and I'm not a bit disappointed with "Once Upon a Shattered Life." Musically, it's a bit different, but SDS still brings it. The lyrics are just as solid as before, and the whole album reflects the band's growing maturity and experience as musicians. Keep up the great work!

Takes it up a notch,

I loved the first SDS album and the second is more of the first. Great songs, great guitar, great message; just better studio work. Both SDS albums are premier rock albums for secular fans as well as Christian.

I've been listening to a lot of Christian rock bands lately such as Kutless, Thousand Foot Krutch, Sanctus Real, etc. but the thing that really strikes me about this band is not just their talent but their lyrics and, if you've ever seen them in concert, you can easily tell that they are genuine and really believe in what they play/sing and what they say on stage. In my humble opinion, this album is a good mix of style and moods. I can't say that I love every song on the album, but enough of them that this is easily one of my favorite albums/bands. This band is a great find! Give them a chance and check them out!

This is one impressive cd. Just listen to Caroline and you will see what I mean. Just about every song on this cd could be a national hit single on secular radio. I just hope that MTV and VH1 seek them out to play their videos & singles like they have done with P.O.D. & Switchfoot. They truely rock!!!

I had never heard anything by Seventh Day Slumber until I saw them in concert when they were warming up for another group; they were pretty good.
This album combines some power rock sound with some positive, meaningful lyrics. I think that this sound would appeal to many fans of secular rock as well as Christian music fans. There are three particularly good songs in this collection: 'Shattered Life', 'Caroline', and 'Oceans From The Rain'. Two others that are pretty good are 'I Believe' and 'Masquerade'. The others are ok, but nothing special. If you like a heavier sound, this would be worth checking out.

This is an awesome Christion Rock CD. If you like Kutlass, give 7th Day Slumber a try. You won't be dissapointed. It is also a great personal testimony in musical form. If you want to see their testimony on video, look on GodTube. It makes their songs even better!
