5.0 out of 5 stars Hypnoticaly beautiful, begs to be reissued., August 23, 1999
By
This lovely background music for the film was truly magic and each time I view the movie I wish that I had the soundtrack (that was destroyed in a hurricane)... the melody simply carries the theme of the story in a smooth and beautiful manner, taking the audience along as the charaters mature, the story matures and the beauty of the music is not lost in the violence but only becomes more delightful as in the wonderful scene of the dinner in the hotel dining room reserved only for the two, with the violins and the beauty of the ocean viewed through the hotel windows. Breathtaking music. I need a CD.

"Once Upon A Time In America" Is one of the most beautiful soundtracks I have ever heard. It conveys all the nostalgia of time flying and of love lost forever. I am very disappointed to know thar it is out of stock. This could never happen.Sincerely, Janet Estill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful., April 20, 2000

This review is from: Once Upon a Time in America (1984 film) (Audio CD)
I do like the movie, but mostly the flashback scenes when the characters are youngsters. The soundtrack is so beautiful--it really captures all the moods portrayed--the sting of poverty, the longing of lost love, strong friendships, etc. This soundtrack is a rarity in that it's first class from the opening strains to very end. Just sit back and fall in love with Morricone's most perfect and beautiful score.

5.0 out of 5 stars a masterpiece of movie soundtracks, December 7, 1999
By
After seeing 3 versions of the movie I was constantly haunted by the lovely theme. It took me months to track down a copy of the soundtrack. I managed to get a record copy out of nyc at an exorbitant price. I lost the record in a recent move but fortunately made a tape recording.A cd of this most beautiful soundtrack is surely a desire of mine .See what you can do amazon to get a reissue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of music from Once Upon a Time in America, August 31, 2004
I saw the movie Once Upon a Time in America starring Robert DeNiro, James Woods, et al., and was just haunted by both the movie and the brilliant score composed by Ennio Morricone. This is music that honestly I feel was inspired. Notwithstanding the fact that this is according to Roger Ebert perhaps one of the best movies of the eighties, Mr.Morricone was absolutely robbed of the oscar winning score that year. I have more than one copy as I don't want anything to happen to it. Really though, its always best to see the movie because then when you are playing the various themes, you know just where you are with the characters. If you happen to run across this CD don't walk, but run to grab it as it is a treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars once upon a time in america, November 22, 2001
By A Customer
I am not a huge fan of classical music but anyone who can listen to this and not be in awe of it simply doesnt have a soul. I have seen the movie several times and it is just one of those soundtracks that if you hear once, you will never forget. If you happen to stumble across this c.d. on Amazon and read the reviews, do yourself a big favor and pick it up even if you dont normally listen to this type of music or even if you have nt seen the film. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars As sublime a film-score as will ever exist, August 5, 2001
By
This review is from: Once Upon a Time in America (1984 film) (Audio CD)
Only the pairing of Bernard Herrman/Alfred Hitchcock can rival the artistic success of Ennio Morricone/Sergio Leone, and this their last collaboration stands as one of their several finest. Plaintive and deeply, deeply moving, this score is as perfect a compliment to the film's somber, gauzy images as one could hope for. Morricone has given the world of music at least a dozen classic film scores and although at the present time this one is not recognized as being among them, this long-time fanatic firmly believes it should be. Morricone rules!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!, January 19, 2000
This review is from: Once Upon a Time in America (1984 film) (Audio CD)
This is one of those movies I'd rent just to hear the music because I honestly thought a soundtrack CD DIDN'T exist. Beautiful music from what I consider an underrated film in the face of Goodfellas, Godfather, etc. Buy this! You won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Master of Program Music, August 28, 2002
This review is from: Once Upon a Time in America (1984 film) (Audio CD)
Every time I see this film, I am moved by Morricone's music. It says more than the film could ever convey in dialogue. While Leone's film may have its moments, Morricone's music never falters during the entire film. It sets the tone, directs your mood and attention, and tears your heart out over unrequited love. As a classical musician, I could hear the influences of a number of composers, including Mahler, and I rejoiced in this man's creativity.
Buy the soundtrack and immerse yourself in a world of crime, love, brotherhood, and nostalgia. It is a real treat.
