Book Description

Holly Dunn is starting life anew after her divorce is finally final. Life is tough, but thankfully, her ex father-in-law (formerly the town sheriff) remains her staunchest supporter, always lending a hand to assure Holly and her children have what they need.

When handsome new undersheriff, Matt Sanders, moves to town, she is embarrassed that their initial meeting happens on the roadway, when he pulls her over for speeding. He’s stern-faced and all-business, but Holly discovers there’s a heart of gold behind the badge.

Thanks to her former father-in-law, who has known Matt’s family for years, the undersheriff becomes a fixture in the family’s lives. Holly finds herself relying on him more and more, but soon decides it’s unfair to cast him in the role of “knight in shining armor.” She is determined to stand on her own two feet and ultimately pushes him away.

Matt wants a future with Holly, but wonders, can he convince her he’s ready to commit? And if he does, will she ever be able to fully trust again?

3.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story about an unconventional family March 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My favorite aspect of this book is the unconventional family dynamic. It gives the story line an unusual and pleasant change of pace. This is a very sweet story of love, loyalty and understanding and I really enjoyed it.

Overall I liked the authors writing style. I did find that the story would shift abruptly from one character's perspective to anothers and sometimes it was difficult to keep up with whose line of thinking was going on in the story. Also near the end of the book I noticed there seemed to be more grammatical errors and the heroine is mistakenly referred to as Jenna several times which was throwing me off. While the book would definitely benefit from better editing it was still an enjoyable, relaxing evening read.

Fix the major grammatical errors and it could definitely rank at least 4 stars with me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Relax, not wrestle March 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't know about you, but I work hard. When I choose to read a book, I want to relax with a good book, not wrestle with it. Some books have such complicated plots and numerous characters, it's seems like work to keep up with them. Once was Lost is an incredibly easy read. No hard work there, just relax and enjoy as the pages keep turning. I'd like to see more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Once Was Lost March 12, 2012

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This author really made me feel for the characters in this book. Holly is who the book mainly focuses on, but I really like how the entire book shows different aspects of the family life and focuses on other characters from time to time, and how everyone is adjusting to divorce. Holly is left trying to get her life back on track after everything seems to be falling down around her. Matt becomes Holly's new interest in the book, and from the get go, Holly isn't quite sure about it. She did resist him quite more than I thought was appropriate, but the author still made it enjoyable. I found myself getting frustrated with Holly when she didn't want to allow Matt to help the family out in any way. It was a good frustration though. It made me want to continue to read to see if she ever would let Matt into her heart.

All in all, this was a crisp read and I enjoyed it very much.

2.0 out of 5 stars Once Was Lost should have stayed lost September 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Between the grammatical errors and unbelievable dialogue, I was grateful the book was free. I`m sure the author was trying to make the heroine a sympathetic figure, but she comes across as a whiny worry-wort, manipulated by a 7 year old.

And for a romance book, the author has no imagination. The only kiss between the h/h is at the very end, and even that is chaste. Then an epilogue that wraps up 2 weddings, a custody battle, and a rehabilitated, drunk absent father in the space of three pages. I expect more depth and development from the books I read. Don`t bother with this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute read August 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Nice little book. My only problem was with the formatting. I was not able to read it on my kindle the font was huge even after adjusting the settings to the smallest font. This is the first book in kindle fire that has done that. It used to happen with my older kindle all the time. I ended up reading it on my tablet with the kindle app.

4.0 out of 5 stars soul searching December 2, 2012

Nice to find a book that doesn't delve deep into characters, but instead gives perspective allowing you to imagine them as if you were in their footsteps. Touches on sensitive personal feelings of vulnerability and although somewhat predictable, it is an enjoyable read.

A nice read with characters you can root for. Holly was annoying occasionally but you still wanted everything to be okay in the end. A very sweet romance.
