5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!, December 26, 1997
This review is from: Once upon a Tangled Tale (Paperback)
I don't usually read modern romances, but something about this book called out to me for several months. Finally, I had the never to pick it up, and I couldn't put it down! The pace is quick and yet well thought-out. The couples were engaging, fun, and honest. The way all the characters are tied in together is not only believeable, but unique as well (in that unlike other books, the author doesn't forget the characters when she moved on to other couples). I recommend it highly to any and all who still believe in fairy godmothers.

4.0 out of 5 stars AH! So that's how the story ends!, December 1, 2005
This review is from: Once upon a Tangled Tale (Paperback)
Cindy Ella and Prince Chalmers have just gotten married. However, before they can move onto "Happily ever after" Fern (Cindy's fairy godmother) overhears talk of someone planning to kidnapping Cindy before the honeymoon! With a quick wave of her wand, Fern sends the three women most likely to be able to help Cindy on their way towards love and rescue: Belinda, Lilith and Roberta.

Belinda takes it upon herself to try and pose as her best friend Cindy and ends up getting kidnapped and dumped into the lap of Princes business enemy. Disfigured in a fire, Cain lives to try and ruin Prince, the man he thinks tried to kill him five years before.

Lilith, a declining cover model happens to be one of Cindy's evil stepsisters and gets dragged after another enemy with Princes Chief of Security Frank. Having been abandoned by the echelon of society himself, Frank can't stand the fakeness of Lilith. He would have been quite content to leave her behind, but he needs the ice princess to make a positive identification.

Lastly, there is Roberta, Princes younger sister who loved and was abandoned by Max, the man they all think is behind the plan to kidnap Cindy. Max, while ecstatic about having the opportunity to spend more time with the love of his life Roberta, knows that the pain he caused her may actually push her away for good when she discovers the truth.

I have to say, ONCE UPON A TANGLED TALE is one goofy story and with a large cast of characters, Brownyn Wolfe had her work cut out for her. Creating her own version of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE ICE PRINCESS and LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, mixed with a little bit of CINDERELLA, we as a reader end up with a great story. The stories are broken out like an anthology. Each set of heroes and heroines has their own "story". Then there is a fourth "chapter", which brings them all together in a kind-of family reunion of characters as they confront the villain. So in this sense, the story is laid out very well, but after reading the first story, you have an idea of who the villain is. All three stories could run concurrently if they had been combined by days or something like this. I thought it would be a little more interesting because you would find out what was happening to each set of characters at the same time and find out what's really going on. But it was a fun story!

Each story is very clean. No profanities and I almost thought we were only going to get kisses between the couples. The plots are kept straight so you don't get confused with what is going on because the stories are overlapping (but don't). So this was a great story. I was laughing at Lilith, and crying with Roberta.

I wish there was more background on each of the characters, because it seems like each story, including Cindy and Prince should have their own longer tale. However, ONCE UPON A TANGLED TALE was very enjoyable to read and I would recommend it!
