Wonderful introduction to a gifted children's author, November 25, 2011
This review is from: Once upon a Time (Meet the Author) (Hardcover)
I have always loved Eve Bunting's books for children and have shared her books with my young daughter the last couple of years. Lately, my daughter, herself an aspiring writer (she loves writing short stories), has been expressing an interest in various authors, and how they were inspired to write. I looked up several kid-friendly author biographies and came across this title.
Once Upon a Time by Eve Bunting gives a short account of Ms. Bunting's beginnings in a small town called Maghera in Ireland. Eve's parents read a lot, and although Eve went away to boarding school when she was only seven, she recalls holidays spent reading at home and even while out. In 1959, Eve and her young family (husband and three young children) moved to California to make a life for themselves. Eve recounts her writing attempts, and how she still lives in the same home they moved into several decades earlier.
Once Upon a Time is a lovely account of a talented writer who has inspired generations of children with her wonderful books. There are lots of photographs that make this book engaging for young and old alike.
