Will Holland is one of the most talented and prolific artists in the world of alternative dance music today. Recording under various guises, Will first found acclaim as Quantic. As well as Quantic and the Q.S.O, Will is one half of The Limp Twins, a duo he formed with Russ Porter. Initially a deejay partnership, it wasn’t long before they started recording, with Russ taking on the vocal ... Read more in Amazon's Quantic Store

Editorial Reviews

Deluxe Ed. Colombian musician, Mario Galeano, the force behind the band Frente Cumbiero, and English producer Will Holland aka Quantic, have joined forces to create the Ondatr¢pica project. Ondatr¢pica, supported by the British Council, exists to explore and expand the tropical sound of Colombia in its rawest form and to marry it with contemporary influences from around the world. Ondatr¢pica brings together an iconic group of top Colombian musicians representing both the classic and more modern styles of la musica Colombiana. Artists such as Fruko, Anibal Velasquez, Michi Sarmiento, Alfredito Linares, Pedro Ramaya Beltran, Markitos Mikolta and Wilson Viveros joined a group of younger Colombian musicians, members of both Mario's band Frente Cumbeiro and Quantic's Combo Barbaro, to (re)generate the excitement that positioned Colombian music as one of the most influential in South America. Soundway's exploration into Colombian music began in 2007 with its much-acclaimed compilation Colombia! The Golden Age of Discos Fuentes: The Powerhouse Of Columbian Music 1960-76 (SNDW 008CD/LP) which features many original works from the above-mentioned artists. Fitting then, that Ondatr¢pica came together over 3 weeks in January 2012 in the legendary Discos Fuentes studios in Medellin with one of Colombia's most celebrated engineers and producers, Mario Rincon, who is responsible for some of Discos Fuentes best recordings of the 1970s. As a result of the British Council support for the project, a 10 piece Ondatr¢pica touring band has been invited to perform at the London Cultural Olympiad on July 21, 2012 as part of the BT River of Music event on the Tower of London Americas stage, following which, the band will also perform at New York's Lincoln Center on July 27, 2012. Ondatr¢pica's eponymously-titled album fuses traditional Colombian styles such as cumbia, gaita and champeta with boogaloo, ska, beat-box, hip-hop, ska, dub and funk, creating a progressive collection of tracks that re-interpret the tropical musical heritage of Colombia with new approaches in composition, arrangement and production.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quantic comes through again! July 22, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
This is a very cool, and yet sometimes odd, blend of traditional and modern Colombian music. The whole album is far superior to the samples; I was a little apprehensive, but Quantic's band is tight. They jam and spread out on a lot of tunes without getting too repetitive; and you can't get that sense from the samples. This is definitely worth the download. For fans of Quantic, the musically adventurous, or of Colombian music in all its forms, this album is crucial. I love that he keeps digging deeper into the music of Colombia and collaborating with super talented musicians I would not have heard of otherwise. Frente Cumbiero is wild too, check out their album with Mad Professor, there are far out dubby Cumbia elements on this too, although most of Ondatropica is very organic and energetic.

Found this watching Anthony Bourdain, it is an amazing album. Very diverse mix of songs, there's something for everyone. I find myself listening to it often. The beats are very nice so I would recommend to anyone.

I found this to be a good record, but by my understanding, this record is trying to revive a history of more traditional Colombian music. It seems largely a statement about history and a reminder of the past. thus, in a way, the music feels calculated rather than innately felt; the musicians seem to be saying "well remember once upon a time . . ." and putting an an elaborate educational production while trying to retain the interest of the younger folks, rather than showing you how the music is still incredible alive, breathing, and felt deep in the soul (and neither committing to playing the traditional way, or living in the now). It has a slightly mechanical feel. It is trying to hard and unsure of what age it belongs in. However, on the technical side, it is well done, and it is still a pleasant listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds Perfecly Old February 4, 2014
That's one of the best albums ever made this time, a true classic. Recorded live and analogically, it sounds like TRUE music, from the heart and soul. If you are a open minded an latin/caribean/groove music lover, you'll not be disapointed, believe me. Just in case, i've been working with music for more than 10 years, producing, creating, DJing an working with Audio Post-Production.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect album. November 30, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is analogous to a Colombian Buena Vista Social Club. My favorite salsa album of all time. It ranges from hard-driving dance pieces to a moving sweet piano piece played by a pianist who literally had just walked out of the hospital.

I heard them featured on Anthony Bourdain's CNN show, "Parts Unknown." What a great surprise. I must listen to them in my office every day. Their talent and passion is nearly a tangible thing.
