Book Description

“People just can’t die. There has to be consequences,” a grief-stricken Alex Pine says to Dr. Hailey Madison in “Come What May,” the first of six short stories. After his mother’s suicide, Alex’s life starts to spin out of control. Alone and desperate for answers, Alex pays his mother’s psychiatrist a visit, gun in hand.

The collection’s title story, “One Day in 2056”, revolves around 14 year old Harold George Wells. In 2050, five billion people were mysteriously abducted and it may have something to do with the “UFO-looking ships” occupying the earth’s skies. However, out of the five billion that were taken, Harold only cares about two: his parents.

In “Nineteen,” aspiring writer and Hemingway enthusiast Jacob Fisher drops out of college to pursue his dream of becoming a novelist. But, after he’s disowned by his parents and kidnapped by a group of scientists, whose sole intention is to send him back in time to make a different choice, he begins to question his fate and destiny and whether or not everything’s not already written in stone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of One Day in 2056 & Other Stories March 3, 2012
By Vince T
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
One Day in 2056 & Other Stories is a captivating collection of short tales that draw the reader in with page-turning science fiction scenarios. The book presents a good mix of variety when it comes to story length and detail. Each tale uniquely develops characters and plots to show off the range of the author's story telling ability. The first and longest story in the collection, Come What May, is a fantastic read. It is long and detailed enough to allow the reader to become attached to the characters yet succinct in reaching a gripping conclusion. One Day in 2056 & Other Stories is very entertaining and easily worth the price of admission.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing read March 22, 2012

One Day in 2056 is a collection of short stories that touches on topics familiar to us all. K.L. Dillon manages to bring the reader to a high level of emotional investment in each story's cast, as they face real, complex problems that mirror those found in everyday life. There are several tales inside this collection that I would love to see expanded into full works, as it was bittersweet to reach their individual conclusions. The book is perfect for someone who commutes or travels, as the stories can be digested separately on the train, bus, or plane and the writing style draws you in so effectively that background noise is all but muted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very fresh ideas in this book. March 11, 2012

I must say I was not disapointed in any of the stories, rather the opposite in fact. However, the first story, Come What May, is truly engaging. The characters are clear and realistic. I found myself completely immersed in much of the dialogue.

Each story stands alone and as a whole they cover a wide variety of scenarios.

I am confident that you won't be disappointed should you purchase this book...I sure wasn't.
