Book Description

July 13, 2004
"When I was born on May 26, 1963, I had already broken a law: homosexuality was illegal in Texas..."

Dolph Crawford used his pretty-boy looks to wrangle his way to fortune and fame. But along the way, his life was filled with the inevitable ups and downs of a young gay boy growing up in mostly heterosexual Texas.

Alienation, shame, and self-hatred were the substance of his youth, and when he left home in his teens he didn't fare much better.

Fueled by confusion and pain, he entered the alluring but toxic world of male hustling, dancing, and eventually signed with Vivid Entertainment to act in, produce, and direct some of the company's most popular gay porn videos.

Now Dolph bares all in a revealing memoir that rips the glamour off the video industry as effectively as it unearths the enduring pain of growing up gay in America.

5.0 out of 5 stars One American Boy Was Good Worthy of Reading, November 10, 2005

This review is from: One American Boy: The Dolph Crawford Story (Paperback)

There are always small minded people who think because they can spell they are the repositories of good taste and moral fiber. People who trash ideas simply because they conflict with theirs are not worth listening to. The book does not suggest it speaks for all. The book One American Boy : The Dolph Crawford Story
by Dolph Crawford is one gay man's perspective on his life and he shared its truth with us with unflinching candor as only he could.

Agree with him or not One American Boy : The Dolph Crawford Story
by Dolph Crawford is man enough to put his cards on the table and reveal himself to the world that we might learn. Any slug can fire hurtful ignorant barbs from the sidelines using the faceless internet as their shooting bind. The United States is a great country but it has its flaws. The United States has a LONG way to go before it becomes the ideal place where issues of gay, straight, race, religion and other issues are worked out in ways that let people live as themselves without fear of being hurt or abused physically or economically. The man spoke the truth in his book and for that get gets my highest five star recomendation and my thanks for his efforts on all our behalfs.

There will always be small minds in the United States please do not let the rantings of the tiny mind story you from enjoying a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars One American Boy: The Dolph Crawford Story, September 3, 2005

Guido the Great "Objectivist" here is what I have to say to you, first learn how to spell, and then maybe just maybe I might think that you have some education. I can't believe the review that you gave this book. It is obvious that you are just a hateful person and that you just want attention. Well! You have it from me. Here is what I think you should do. Go back to school and learn two things how to spell and learn some manners. I understand that we are all entitled to our opinion, but please learn some respect. I have read this book and I have found it honest, painful, scary at times and heartbreaking. I love the way Dolph did not think about what people might think of him, he wanted you as the reader to see his reality and feel his pain. And I did!!!! Guido I think you might be just a little jealous and I think you should do something about it, LIKE MAYBE WRITE A BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SPELL CHECK.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great view of the gay experience in America, August 5, 2004
This book gives a first hand account of growing up gay in America. The author reveals very personal experiences that helps the reader capture the true essence of his fears and hopes and dreams were realy about. I applaud the honesty and the courage of this writer. I normally don't read non fiction, the cover caught my eye but when i opened the book and saw the depth of this man, i wept and i laughed through tears and i grew to love this character and i want him to triumph in the end. This is must read for anyone...but definitely for a gay male in america or anywhere in the world. I wish this author the greatest sucess with this book. It will touch many lives. It definitely touched mine.
