Book Description

September 1, 2006 Arabesque
Letting go of the past . . .

After five years, Natasha Lawrence believes she is finally over the recurring nightmare of the last conversation she had with her husband, Tim, who died in the World Trade Center on September 11. She and her two sons have now comfortably settled into a small South Carolina town, close to her in-laws. But when her late husband's stepbrother moves nearby and offers friendship and support, Natasha feels guilty about her attraction to him.

Can sometimes open your heart

Confirmed bachelor Jared Langston had always envied the family life his stepbrother Tim Lawrence enjoyed. But when his job takes him to Atlanta, near Tim's widow and her two sons, he finds himself drawn to Natasha despite the complications of the blended family relationships. Will Jared be able to overcome his own inhibitions and convince Natasha to take a chance on love?

More About the Author

Bettye Griffin was told by her English professor that she had a gift for writing and might want to consider pursuing writing as a professional career. She promptly dropped out of college and started crafting stories...and just 22 short years later sold her first book. Bettye writes both contemporary romance and women's fiction. A native of Yonkers, New York, Bettye has also lived in Florida and Illinois, and now crafts her compelling, drama-filled tales from her home in the great dairy state of Wisconsin. Bettye thoroughly enjoys Wisconsin's contributions to the American diet and often nibbles on cheese while writing, and she celebrates a good day of writing by having a glass of the beer that made Milwaukee famous.

Since 1998, Bettye has written 6 novels of women's fiction, including Once Upon A Project (2008) and A New Kind of Bliss (2009); and 13 contemporary romances, including A Love For All Seasons (2007) and A Love of Her Own (1999). In 2009, seeing the creative and financial freedom of publishing independent projects, Bettye started her own imprint, Bunderful Books, and to date has published three contemporary romances through this outlet, Save The Best For Last (2009), The Heat of Heat (2010), and A Kiss of a Different Color (2011). 2.0 out of 5 stars Good Concept, but...., August 31, 2006
This review is from: One On One (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is about a family that lost a member during the 9/11 attacks. While trying to move forward with her life, Natasha finds herself attracted to her late husband's stepbrother Jared. Jared left New York shortly after 9/11 because he was attracted to her also. When they meet again four years later he realizes that he still wants her. This book is so painfully slow that it took the author 80 pages to get this far. I've read four other books since starting this one and still can't read it long enough get through the wishy-washy main characters that continue to deny what they feel for each other, but sulk like two year olds when they "imagine" the other with someone else. The pace may eventually pick up, though I can't imagine it. : )

Hi Bettye
I finished reading One on One last night and I have to say that this is a great book. I love Jared character. I am so glad that Natasha finally decided it was time for her to be happy. We all understand what Natasha was going through trying to re-build her life after 9-11 and I am glad she had family around. I love a good strong, caring & loving man and that is the type of man Jared is.

Good job. I am hoping Kirk will have a story next.

Thanks
Louise

2.0 out of 5 stars Not one of her best......, May 1, 2007
This review is from: One On One (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
I agree this story is slow and boring but has a great premise - what a shame the premise was wasted with this story. Both the main characters act like kids rather than adults who know what they want and go for it but allow what they think is others view of their relationship to influence their decisions. When you give people so much power over your life one is bound to be unhappy. Also I get fed up of characters not communicating and making silly assumptions about the others feeling - I suppose immature people act like that in real life.
