5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book at a Great Price!!!!
This book is great with original designs!!! I was sooo surprised at reading the one star review, as I grabbed my copy and HAD to write a review. I just got through showing my friend this book, that I was surprised I was reading a review of the same book. This book has instructions from A-Z, that's right us beginner knitters, no need to go and get a reference guide when...

3.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Title!
While there are some items that CAN be made with a single ball or hank of yarn, WATCH THE YARDAGE REQUIREMENTS for the project, with this book! Some of the larger projects toward the back of the book are calling for cones of yarn, or hanks that are well over the normal yardage in today's 50 gr. or 8 oz. balls & hanks! Other than that, there are some nice patterns in the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book at a Great Price!!!!, June 11, 2008
This review is from: One Ball Knits Accessories: 20 Stylish Designs Made with a Single Ball, Skein, Hank, Or Spool (Paperback)
This book is great with original designs!!! I was sooo surprised at reading the one star review, as I grabbed my copy and HAD to write a review. I just got through showing my friend this book, that I was surprised I was reading a review of the same book. This book has instructions from A-Z, that's right us beginner knitters, no need to go and get a reference guide when making patterns from a knitting book. Furthermore, I found unique designs such as jewelry pieces (yes I was surprised myself) to a spicy red handbag. It was shocking to see how I could make a ribbed poncho from just a ball of yarn. I found designs for all skill levels, so once I accomplish the beginner, I hope to go on to the intermediate and experienced designs. It is basically a great book on- the- go that will teach you knitting as well as take beginner knitters to an experienced level with easy to read patterns and graphs. Sometimes I wonder if other people who write outlandish reviews are common people like us or have other intentions in mind... please--just don't get us off the right track. Guys, buy this book and see for yourself!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book for Every Knitter, June 4, 2008
This review is from: One Ball Knits Accessories: 20 Stylish Designs Made with a Single Ball, Skein, Hank, Or Spool (Paperback)
I have a weakness for buying yarns that are beautiful and too lovely to resist...and then I let them sit around, because I don't have time to use them. Then, I ship the yarn off to one of my more dedicated aunts, and let them enjoy the beauty of it all.

BUT!!! Having found this gem of a book, I can finally just buy a couple balls of yarn at a time, and quickly knit them up for a simple, yet gorgeous creation...which I can keep or even be generous enough to gift! The patterns in this beautifully illustrated book are well-written and easy to follow, and very tempting to attempt. I no longer have to store yarn and gaze longingly at it, wishing I had time to knit them all up, which, needless to say, is really nice.

The book starts by discussing the basics and terminology of knitting, and talks about the tools needed. It gives recommendations on how to substitute different yarns from the ones used in the patterns. The patterns include some interesting jewelry pieces, belts, socks, handbags, and quite a few very interesting capes/shawls, which I am most eager to make.

Very rewarding book, and I will be recommending this to all the former knitters in my life, who have given up knitting due to time constraints. This book promises to get us back on the path to knitting. Excellent for beginners and novices alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Complete!, June 30, 2008
This review is from: One Ball Knits Accessories: 20 Stylish Designs Made with a Single Ball, Skein, Hank, Or Spool (Paperback)
WOW! I was clearly impressed with this book and found that the patterns were unique and impressive. I am always interested in crafts that challenge me and this one clearly did! Not only are all the patterns, and I mean ALL--made with only one ball which include hanks, skeins, and spools, these creative designers have incorporated a large range of styles and techniques for unique designs. There are 20 stylish designs in this book and a nice section with illustrated knitting techniques that complete this book. One Ball Knits has stylish patterns ranging from belts, hats to lace and cable scarves as well as some projects that I didn't know could be made with only one ball--such as a cable poncho, lace wrap and twisted knit bag that has a very designer look. There are a wide variety of cables and lace designs as well as felting and bead work. There are two very stylish jewelry patterns, the "jhumka" (chandelier earrings) with a matching necklace and the "panja" which is an Indian hand jewelry. That was something new to learn. I never knew that one book can teach me so much about knitting with only one ball! Really you have to see this book to believe it!

This review is from: One Ball Knits Accessories: 20 Stylish Designs Made with a Single Ball, Skein, Hank, Or Spool (Paperback)
I was expecting various projects on the smaller side that would be fun to make with the odd ball here and there. Some of the projects in this book call for over 800 yards of yarn, not really typical of the "one ball" type. I can understand if the project is made of lace, since lace weight hanks have lots of yardage but in DK or Worsted? Lets be realistic here. A cone is NOT the equivalent of a ball.

The projects are pretty but generally complex - not the kind of stuff you knit while watching TV. Many charts to follow too. There might be 1-2 projects I would like to make for myself and another one that I would love for somebody to make for me - I don't like the instructions and will not bother to cast it on myself. I gave 2 stars instead of one because the projects are pretty but most are not even practical.

I would be happy to trade the book in, nothing in there that I will miss.

2.0 out of 5 stars Get it from the library, September 28, 2009
This review is from: One Ball Knits Accessories: 20 Stylish Designs Made with a Single Ball, Skein, Hank, Or Spool (Paperback)
This book disappointed me. The designs are clunky. A large portion of the book is devoted to teaching basic knitting.

1.0 out of 5 stars what a disappointment, June 11, 2008

This review is from: One Ball Knits Accessories: 20 Stylish Designs Made with a Single Ball, Skein, Hank, Or Spool (Paperback)
What a disappointment this book is...an interesting thought but the patterns show NO imagination or any original design...these are patterns similar to ones you can get for free on line, so save your pennies for one that shows something new...
I knit a lot..and I am always looking for new ideas...last book I got before this one was Nicky Epstein's new scarf book...now there is a designer with imagination and originality...I wish I had know how poor this book was before I ordered it...
I actually would give this book NO stars but the computer would not allow this.

5.0 out of 5 stars An easy guide to making better use of 'leftovers' in a modern way, November 15, 2008
This review is from: One Ball Knits Accessories: 20 Stylish Designs Made with a Single Ball, Skein, Hank, Or Spool (Paperback)
20 stylish designs made with a single ball or skein of yarn makes for an outstanding collection of wraps, gloves, and even jewelry. Knitters know how often a single skein or small ball of yarn remains after a larger project: now there's an easy guide to making better use of 'leftovers' in a modern way. Highly recommended for avid knitters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Gift, October 4, 2009
This review is from: One Ball Knits Accessories: 20 Stylish Designs Made with a Single Ball, Skein, Hank, Or Spool (Paperback)
I was happy to receive this wonderful book as a gift. There were many projects that would allow me to use my scrap yarn since I have a lot of them. This book is filled with positively admiring projects. A perfect book for those of us who have many balls of leftover yarn and just don't know what to do with them.
