5.0 out of 5 stars A deftly written inspirational novel, June 6, 2008
This review is from: One of the Best Things (Paperback)
The streets of Chicago are not the most forgiving of places. "One of the Best Things" follows Sunni as she tries to pursue her dream - only to have it snatched away from her, crushing her and making her perform unspeakable acts. At rock bottom, her only strands to climb back up lie in her mother and where she least expects help to home. "One of the Best Things" is a deftly written inspirational novel, a top pick for community library fiction collections.

5.0 out of 5 stars My life isn't so hard..., October 22, 2007
This review is from: One of the Best Things (Paperback)
Anytime I start thinking things are hard for me, something comes along to remind me that I really have it pretty good. This book was one of them. The author takes us through the realities of what could be many people's lives and shows us that it really is possible to overcome what happens to us and make better choices going forward. Her character, Sunni, is very real, and the fears and decisions she makes are not foreign. But somehow, out of the depths of hell, she is able to rise above it all and move on to not only make something of herself but give back to others. My life isn't so hard, after all, and although Sunni is a fictional character, I suspect the inspiration and experiences were very real. The author certainly presents it as believable...riveting reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Things, September 30, 2007
This review is from: One of the Best Things (Paperback)
Captivating and inspirational book by an unknown author. Very worth reading. The book pulls you into the story and holds your interest throughout. Very well written with deep character development. The book demonstrates how any one of us can make it through the darkest of circumstances and succeed if we develop goals, never abandon the idea of success and feel strong support and love from a loved one in our lives. This story shows how a young girl who experienced the worst of circumstances in her life remained determined to have a much better life than her mother had been subjected to. The mother in this story was a strong parent. The daughter respected her mother. She was determined to make her proud of her.

Honey's Mom (Ashland, KY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One of the Best Things (Paperback)
This is such an amazing book! It is impossible to put it down! I was able to feel each emotion that the main character (Sunni) felt as if I were the one going through it. This book tells the story of a woman who chooses to overcome everything bad in her life and turn it around for good. It gives hope to anyone who has felt as if they were bound to a moment(s) in their life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Capitvating and inpirational, July 22, 2007
This review is from: One of the Best Things (Paperback)
This book was not only captivating (I could not put it down!), but it was powerfully emotional as well. The story takes you through the hardships of a young girl raised in a tough neighborhood. It is truly an inspirational story of how a girl is able to overcome her challenges and make a better life for herself.

I could just feel everything the main character was going through. Some books really leave you with the feelings of the characters in the book even when you put the book down and this was definitely one of those.
