Editorial Reviews

Review

"Following her promising debut (Bite Me, Your Grace), Ann hits her stride with solid writing, a tasty dash of originality, and realistic relationships that zing with sexual energy. A strong sense of fun mixed with a little feminism keeps things lively and light, while the well-developed story keeps eyes on the page." - Publishers Weekly

"Ann's delightful vampire world is a fun place to stop for a swift, lively evening's enjoyment. Yes, it is a dark world, but with Ann's propensity for subtle humor and eccentric characters, it's an enchanting world as well." - RT Book Reviews, 4 Stars

"A delightful mix of historical and paranormal romance, One Bite Per Night was a wonderful read... It blended vampires and a historical setting in a way that created a lovely story. Romance lovers, this is a book worth checking out." - Imagine A World

"One Bite Per Night is a ton of fun... This gets a solid recommend from me." - Long and Short Reviews, 4 1/2 stars

"One Bite Per Night is the long awaited for follow up of Bite Me, Your Grace. Ms. Ann has more than delivered... Her characters are three dimensional, funny, likeable, and engaging. The story line is unique and entertaining and she does a lovely job of reeling the reader in and keeping them guessing." - Night Owl Reviews, 4 1/2 stars, Top Pick

"While not veering far from the historical romance formula, ONE BITE PER NIGHT still manages to delight the reader with it's fun heroine, brooding hero, and matchmaking side characters. This is paranormal romance at its finest, with the romance taking center stage, and the paranormal just being one aspect of the story... With a little something for everybody, ONE BITE PER NIGHT is a winner." - All Things Urban Fantasy

"Clutch the pearls, ladies. It's wonderful...I have found a new love in ONE BITE PER NIGHT and Brooklyn Ann's work. I can't wait to get my greedy little hands on more of it." - Lit Bites

"I loved, loved, loved this book... I love historical romances, but the Vampire/Paranormal twist that Brooklyn Ann does with hers is amazing." - Rakes of Romance

The author outdid herself when she wrote that first chapter. Talk about setting up a heart wrenching reason to like the heroine, Lydia, and have a reader invested in her happiness so early on in a book! It’s like I could feel her rejection and sadness and then, her determination to survive, succeed and thrive. It takes a strong female character to weather the emotional onslaught of rejection and Ms. Ann certainly accomplished it. Lydia was a terrific heroine.

Vincent, the hero is in a pickle. He is honor bound to repay an old pact or oath that was made many years before. It was a clever way to get Lydia and Vincent together in a very proper manner. What happens next is anything but proper. It’s delightful, intriguing and full of surprises.

The author did have some of the characters that I met in Bite Me, Your Grace populate this current novel but they were only there to help prod the hero and sometimes poke fun at him, and in that, they were very helpful and endearing, especially Angelica. Rest assured however, that this is a wonderful standalone story. The few details that would be helpful to know from the previous book are revealed in the natural course of telling this tale while introducing Lydia to its world’s intricacies, when Vincent has no choice but to tell her. The drama and suspense that leads up to that moment was great writing. On the other hand, I don’t know if anyone would truly be that unaware of their surroundings and I can’t figure out why someone out of nowhere would do such a thing. It almost seemed orchestrated to me but that’s not where the author took it. I guess the level of intrigue that she did provide was enough. Of course, what came afterwards is definitely worth reading.

A delightful mix of historical and paranormal romance, One Bite Per Night was a wonderful read. I really liked this book. It was a lovely romance and I really enjoyed reading it.

Lydia was a good heroine, though I'm a bit torn about her. On one hand, I liked that she was strong and independently-minded. She had a unique view on things that brought a lot of freshness to the story. On the other hand, she was waaaaay too impulsive, in a way that often had her getting into stupid (and dangerous) situations and unable to handle to consequences. It was alright the first couple of times, but it came to be a habit with her. Overall, though, I liked her fine.

On that note, it seemed really odd how unconcerned about propriety the characters were. I know we're talking about a collection of vampires and an American girl, but it was to the point that it felt inconsistent with the time period. It kept me from diving into the story completely, because I would stop and question if what the characters were doing was okay within the time period (the answer was often no).

On the brighter side, Vincent was a total sweetie. I loved how dedicated he was, not only to the vampires he had responsibility for, but to Lydia and her well-being. He was wonderful and I adored him.

The romance was lovely. Lydia and Vincent were sweet together. I liked how, from the moment they met, they clicked and there was never any doubt about their feelings (even if they weren't great about articulating them). And, the chemistry between them was hot and it led to some very steamy scenes. I thought they were a wonderful couple.

The plot was well paced and I was kept interested the entire way through. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely.

WOW! Can this little ex-mechanic write. I mean really tell a tale. Brooklyn, my dearest friend, has flair and then some. A regency/vampire/love story. And it works. Orphaned in the Americas, beautiful Lydia Price heads to England to be with the family she has never before met, and will not meet if her Grandmother has anything to say about it. Disapproving of her son's marriage to a woman she did not like causes the Dowager Countess of Morley to call on the mysterious Vincent Tremayne, the Devil Earl, to take the girl as his ward to repay a debt of honor or see her unwarrantedly locked away in an insane asylum. Though Vincent wants nothing to do with the launching of a young girl he has never met, his anger of what her relatives have waiting for her is so heinous he feels honor bound to find the girl a husband in polite society England ASAP. What Vincent does not plan for is his first meeting for the beautiful, raven haired Lydia, whose love of life, her fantastic talent for oil painting and exploring every little burrow she come's across in his "Hauntingly" beautiful castle. While seeing his charming ward endowed with a large fortune, designer gowns, and the highest honor of sponsorship available for presentation, Vincent finds his own heart engaged by the beautiful sprite. All while trying to keep her active mind from discovering the fact that he's a vampire. Brooklyn did her research on Regency England with a touch of mastery. And humor too! What's not to love! I REALLY wish I could give this more stars, I really do! LOVED it doll!
