5.0 out of 5 stars One On One is the One
Of course, everyone that really likes this album is going to give it 5 stars. Why? Because it's a great album! What I don't understand is when a person who doesn't like a particular style or genre of music feels the need to judge an an album based on his (or her) taste IN that style of music. Honestly, I think that's just plain ignorance! I can't stand Michael Bolton or...

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh, please
I just had to write a brief review, seeing as how this album had nothing but five-star reviews. Of course, my negative review will inevitably be declared as "not useful" to others who disagree with me. Fine. However, let me say that not everyone thinks this album is fantastic - or even good, for that matter. Just because a person has decent talent in playing an...

I can't stand Michael Bolton or Kenny G, so what would be the point in me listening to their latest disc and then reviewing it, saying it sucks and giving it one star? If you hated jazz of any kind, you'd say Miles Davis and John Coltrane suck. I believe people should have a remote knowledge of what they're judging first and then base those judgements more on the merits of the musicians, the execution of the material, the quality of the recording, etc. If I were a hardcore vegetarian, I wouldn't go to the best steakhouse in town and then shout for the whole world to hear, "this is the worst restaurant ever!" That would be stupid. Then again, that's just MY opinion!

A great combination! I bought this album back in high school, and just like everything else, I couldn't find it. One of my favorites for just plain kickin' back!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't wait!, July 14, 2008

'Kari', 'The Afterglow', and 'Love Lips' are worth the price alone...and they're all 3 back-to-back-to back of each other! A no-brainer buy if I've ever seen one from these 2 masters. Old girlfriends, great times past, glorious victories...this cd will bring them all back to the present.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Light Jazz Classic That Gets Better With Age, March 1, 2007

I was given this album as a vinyl disk when it first came out. Immediately put it onto tape and it has followed me to Europe and back on several occasions. Each track is as good as the next, and all represent the best of Bob James and Earl Klugh. These were the perfect soundtrack for driving through Southern Arizona's desert mountains with the roof down and the headlights off on a moonlit night -- it just doesn't get any better. Must have for every collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant album - 1981 Grammy Winner 'Best Pop Instrumental Performance', November 28, 2006
This review is from: One on One (Audio CD)
This still is one of my favorite all-time albums. Now if only I didn't lose this CD every few years and had to re-buy it :-) Smooth pop/jazz that will put a smile on your face every time you listen to it. Probably my favorite Bob James album.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Collaborative Musical Effort, November 7, 2006
This review is from: One on One (Audio CD)
I believe this was Bob James' and Earl Klugh's first collaborative work together. This album is one of smooth jazz's most soothing album. The one track that stands out here is "I'll Never See You Smile Again", which was played in the radio often.

I just had to write a brief review, seeing as how this album had nothing but five-star reviews. Of course, my negative review will inevitably be declared as "not useful" to others who disagree with me. Fine. However, let me say that not everyone thinks this album is fantastic - or even good, for that matter. Just because a person has decent talent in playing an instrument does not give him a license to churn out shameless muzak like this, and that's EXACTLY what this is - vapid, meritless muzak. If that's your thing, fine, disagree with me and say this review is useless. I say YOUR MUSIC is useless. I understand that the term "jazz" is a large unbrella under which many sub-genres can find shade, but this is not jazz in ANY SENSE. This is ultra-safe, elevator background fare.
