This review is from: One Came Back: A Franco-American Civil War Novel (Hardcover)
Bought this book that was written by my Great Grandfather after my granddaughter was doing some research for a school project at school and mentioned it to me. Knowing my family history I enjoyed reading this book although it was hard to follow the story at times due to the fact that it was translated from French to English. Some people might find this a drawback, but if you keep this in mind the story itself is a good one based on the the Civil War.

And One Came Back,
By A Customer
This review is from: One Came Back: A Franco-American Civil War Novel (Paperback)
"And One Came Back" is not a typical Civil War novel that focuses on major battles. Two soldiers from the ranks are portrayed in a somewhat fictionalized form. Bitter personal experience before enlistment, desertion, and prison life are given more attention than battle strategy or experience. Actual battle experience is briefly described on the basis of its impact on the individual. The novel follows a Canadian in the union army through his strange travels and romance. The novel dominates the battle history. If you are open to this difference in emphasis, you will enjoy this book.
