I do many CD reviews of soundtracks here on Amazon and I often point out that some soundtracks make more sense (and are more enjoyable) after you have seen the film. And then the definition of the word "soundtrack" has been blurred over the years as record companies include full songs that were only excerpted in the film (or, worse yet, release albums consisting of songs "inspired by (insert film title here)" ).

The film "Once Chance" will not be released nationally until AUGUST 2014 (!), so I have not had a chance to see the film (though I hope to). It is the fictionalized story of Paul Potts , a British singer who was a finalist on TV's Britain's Got Talent in 2007 and has since released some CDs. This Soundtrack consists of Potts singing both opera arias and Neapolitan songs for 15 of the tracks. There is one by the Italian singing group Il Divo and - in a marketing tool to bring in the "younger generation" a new TAYLOR SWIFT song, "Sweeter Than Fiction". Again, not having seen the film yet, my guess is that the TS song plays over the end credits. Five of the Potts tracks are new so Potts fans may be drawn to that.

I might have a different take on the album after I actually see the film but for now I can say that I do like hearing a good tenor (though the repertoire is one that every tenor sings - "O Sole Mio", "Celeste Aida" - (and the Il Divo track - "Time To Say Goodbye" is, honestly, Andrea Bocelli's trademark song )and maybe, just maybe, a Taylor Swift fan will but it for her track and find that there is good music beyond "amplified country/pop".

I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.

1.0 out of 5 stars POOR SOUND QUALITY RECORDING!!!! March 24, 2014
Verified Purchase
I bought this soundtrack for the Taylor Swift song, "Sweeter Than Fiction", however, this song is at a VERY LOW RECORDING LEVEL, almost sounds like it was copied from a cassette tape.
I spoke to Sony Classics about the quality, to see if they would re-issue a better sounding soundtrack; of course, they didn't care...
If you're looking for a quality recording, DO NOT BUY THIS CD!
