Something Every Fan Can Appreciate,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Cold Night (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
Anyone who follows Seether knows that they have always been prone to performing acoustic versions of their hits. Afterall, anyone who looks around hard enough could easily make a CD full of acoustics they have performed for various radio stations over the years. But finally, we get a one-stop place for the cream of the crop. "One Cold Night," Seether's first live CD/DVD set, focuses on a concert captured in Philadelphia on February 22nd, 2006 -- completely unplugged. It's nothing too fancy, but I'll be damned if it isn't just a great piece of music.
Obviously the concert appears both in audio form on the CD, and in visual form on the DVD. Although it's nice to just sit back and chill with the audio, the actual concert itself is just so much better. There's something about watching this that has made me a bigger Seether fan (and I've already seen them live). Must've been something in the air that night, perhaps, because the band is just spot-on. All the familiar bases are covered -- from an ex-girlfriend-less version of "Broken" to "Fine Again," "Driven Under," "The Gift" and even heavier songs like "Gasoline" and "The Remedy." Hell, they even bang out a Pearl Jam cover in "Immortality" and pull it off wonderfully. After the twelve song set, on the CD, there is a bonus track, which is the radio edit of "The Gift," their latest single. Personally, I could have gone without it. It simplifies the song a bit too much, especially where the music in the proper version is just as emotional as any of the vocal parts. But, that's just a small gripe, and doesn't take away from the sheer perfection of this performance. On the DVD we are given the music video for "The Gift" with some behind the scenes footage, but nothing can beat the massive one-hour interview (longer than the actual concert) conducted by the local radio station. During this interview, little-known nuggets about the band are leaked, such as frontman Shaun Morgan's involvement in an ill-fated Korn-cover band and ex-guitarist Pat Callahan's unfortunate incident with a beehive. During this interview, you really learn a lot and it really sheds some light on a band that casual listeners could easily write off as one-dimensional. If anything, this set proves that Seether have the talent and the personality to withstand the trends. Watching and listening, I get the feeling this is one band that is going to be around for quite a while. I have to ask one question, though: where's the Nirvana covers, guys? Seether are notorious for them, and the lack of seems a bit odd.

I had their first CD, and while it was good, the songs werent anything spectacular. So it was hit or miss for me. Soetimes id play a track or 2, so when K&E came out i never bothered with it.
I was browsing in the store and saw this. The ambiance on the cover kind of sucked me in. I tend to like this acoustic style stuff. Looked at the tracklisting and figured these songs could sound good in this setting. So i picked it up. And as i figured, they pretty much play it safe and go note-for-note with the studio stuff. Not a bad thing, but nothing risky is attempted here except possibly the Pearl Jam cover of "Immortality" which is really well done. The sound quality is crisp, and the delivery is sincere.. So i will say that this CD got me re-interested in these guys a bit. I always liked Morgans laid back singing style. Lyrically, some are quite good. Some a bit hollow, but arent terrible by any means. Just a bit basic. If you liked Seether before, youll LOVE them after this. If you were a bit reluctant, this is a great place to start. Not to mention you get the show on DVD as well.

Great Collection of Acoustic Tracks,
By
This review is from: One Cold Night (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
This is an excellent acoustic live performance recording of the South African Band Seether, who now for 5 years have still managed to stay afloat in the New Metal wasteland that was created around the turn of the century. Now bands like Godsmack and Seether have slowed down and put out acoustic albums to not only show their music can something than just music angry young testosterone filled teens mad at their parents can listen too. Seether has been known to put out many acoustic songs on singles, and for radio stations, now they have just sat down and decided to make a full album for our convenience. Thank you. With The Bonus DVD that comes with this, This album is also an excellent value. I would recommend this to be bought after you alread own their first two albums, so the pure rock aggression and sound wave can be absorbed/interpreted and understood before it is broken down here. Fair weather fans may be picked up by this album, as was done by Stonsour's song "Bother" years ago (much to the fans shock listening to the rest of the album), but unlike that song, this album still interprets well into the original elecrified songs. As a well established heavy metal rattlehead, Thumbs up to SEETHER.

Seether,

Wow...that is all I can say...they sound so amazing live, it's almost a dissapointment. The true meaning of "acoustic" (in my opinion) is another version of the song that isn't as good as studio quality recordings. While the band does make other versions of the songs, they are so powerful and good it sounds almost better than the studio recordings. This is a must get for a Seether fan, acoustic fan, rock fan, or just a fan of music. A great CD anyone can enjoy!

I actually saw pretty much the same exact acoustic set while they were touring with shinedown, and I thought IT KICKED COMPLETE A**!! If you haven't seen seether live you might wanna next time they come around. So when I heard they were coming out with this CD I was extatic.
The great thing about this CD is that it comes with the complete show on DVD which kicks a**, and you also get some bonus stuff like a behind the scenes look at the making of The Gift video, and a very long interview, which also kicks a**. I could listen to this whole CD without a skip so if you are a seether fan buy it, if not F***ING BUY IT ANYWAYS!!

I saw Seether do an accoustic set in a local music shop and it was awesome - now everyone can have that same experience!! You hear the feelings come thru as Shaun sings. They are not just a bunch of lyrics repeated every night to get a paycheck, they are heartfelt and you can hear it and see it on this FANTASTIC CD/DVD set!!

I was fortunate enough to see them play this same set when they were on tour with Shinedown in Phoenix in which they rocked and was absolutely ecstatic when I heard thay were coming out with a live non electric album. They totally nailed it with this release. It is very well recorded and put together. You also get a nice bonus with the long interview they had with the band on the DVD. If you even remotely like the band or genre of music you will absolutely love this package. I cant stop listening to it.

The BEST unplugged performance ever!,
By Jason GN "Jason" (OHIO) - See all my reviews

I bought this CD the day after it came out. "The Gift" is the only track I had heard and bought it just for that. After listening to the entire CD I was amazed. Seether displays a whole new atmosphere to their existing songs on this CD.
I usually don't like unplugged CDs because the yelling and clapping get on my nerves. But this CD keeps that to a tolerable level for me. My favorites are Gasoline, Truth, Immortality, Tied me hands, Fine again, The gift, & plastic man. |
