3.0 out of 5 stars Bernardette-less Klymaxx changes sound but not harmonies, March 30, 2009

I'm sorry, Bernardette Cooper appears on one track on this album ONE DAY while Lynn Malsby (one of two keyboardists in their heyday) is missing in action forcing Robbin Grider to fill the void of two keyboardists. Not bad, Robbin. Exit: Ms. Cooper (the past drummer). Enter: Terri Lyne Carrington on beats. Not much of a difference to me (sorry rookie).

ONE DAY starts like a new jack swing/hip-hop thang instead of R&B/dance grooves like "The Men All Pause", "Meeting In The Ladies Room" or "Divas Need Love Too". But they do get sort of interesting here. While Joyce "Fenderella" Irby is mentioned as co-producer on almost every track and co-writer on most, it's like maybe Lynn wasn't missed after all. But the first two joints from this album the title track and "Code Bleu" sounds much like Irby's MAXIMUM THRUST but that doesn't continue. Then it must have kinda felt like ol' times with Bernadette Cooper not changing a bit on "4 The Ole Dawg N U" (still missing Malsby? Nah). Also co-writer with Irby is the legendary croon songwriter himself: Burt Bacharach (how they get him) on ballads like "This Doesn't Feel Like Love Anymore" and "Once Before You Go" and covering a Babyface written "All I Think About Is You". The Maxx meant business on this independent release but got no love. Also, like Terri's hidden talents is Cheryl Cooley, the guitarist. Where? I've heard her play before and she can really rock out when she wants to, could have givin' them an uplift interest to another genre. Guess not Cheryl.

ONE DAY is a stretch for Fenderella, Robbin, Mrs. Lorena (new last name), Cheryl and Terri to put KLYMAXX back to that crossover success (like The Deele) they've enjoy with the ballads "I Miss You" and "I'd Still Say Yes" with like 5 ballads (out of 15 selections) plus a cover of Rufus/Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody" attempting that good old pop exposure but it falls on deaf ears maybe because no one knows this album exist. It's not the Maxx fully but you gotta give the divas love here. They deserve it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Klymaxx:The First All-Female Funk Band is back, May 21, 2011

Klymaxx; has always been under-rated. This is a concept c.d. Like what Prince; used to do. So,there is jazz and reggae on it. There is different kinds of funk. Klymaxx; shows out. At the end of c.d.;it should be a suite;instead of cuts. The music world is cruel and destorys artists. Klymaxx; was put down for good. Then came back strong. I didn't know about this release. The re-make of Chaka's="Ain't Nobody". Is hardcore funk at it's best. It's the only re-make.I know about know. There's a rumor, that there's a new Klymaxx c.d. coming out. I just got this one in mail. It's worth the wait. Who's says a woman can't play in a hardcore funk band. Klymaxx; plays harder then the male funk bands. "Night Moves",is a jazz-funk cut. they put down the funk hard on it. Just like when=Prince=plays jazz-funk. But;the music world thinks when that happens. The artist, gets canceled. I respect,Klymaxx. For taking chances. Keeping their vision real, not selling out for the big buck. I highly recommed this c.d. I'm a hardcore funk-master,but love the mellow cuts on this c.d. and love the funk cuts, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'D STILL SAY YES TO THE MAXX, January 20, 2002
By

Klymaxx has done it again!!! Always teriffic at combining "now" dance tunes with tender ballads, the girls actually put this one out in 1994 on a new label. The most memorable tunes are "This doesn't feel like love anymore" and "all i think of is you". The most memorable shock is their introduction to the music world of their ability to perform jazz. The uptempos are very current. Although their early work was the best, don't skip this one!!
