I love the magical quality of this CD. All the hymns are wonderful and her voice is pure. I would recommend this CD for all the times your spirit needs encouragement. The songs are full of hope and i believe it makes you want to sing with her.

We bought this for a relative whose husband passed away suddenly. She had always liked Cristy Lane and in particular "One Day At A Time". Cristy sings with such feeling and my friend has truly gotten comfort from the CD. It was just the perfect CD. Thanks Amazon for having such a variety of music.

This was a gift for my mum. What a beautiful cd. My mum plays it every night before going to bed. She said she will never get sick of hearing it.

I got this one in a CD and slso a cassette. My car only takes cassettes and I play this one all the time in the car.

This CD contains the favorites of Christy Lane. Some are inspirational and all are relaxing easy listening.

Cristy achieved her greatest commercial success with her number one hit version of One day at a time. The song actually dates back to the mid-seventies, so it wasn't new when Cristy recorded it; several other American singers had already recorded the song. Furthermore, the Scottish singer Lena Martell had a number one pop hit in Britain with her cover of the song in 1979. (It was her only hit single, though her albums sold well and several of them made the UK album charts.) Prior to Cristy recording the song, it hadn't made a huge impact in America, so perhaps it was a song that was just waiting to happen.

The album built around Cristy's single was hugely successful and sold a million copies. Well, I was one of those million and I was most impressed. Many of the songs were covers of familiar gospel songs, but Cristy clearly loved singing them and that made her versions special. That album is now re-issued here in expanded form, with 22 tracks instead of the original 10. I don't remember exactly which 10 tracks were on the original album (though I recognize most of them), but I'm sure that they are all here. The sequencing doesn't aid the memory as it is clear that the original tracks are not all grouped together. Still. I like the new sequence so I'm not complaining.

Whether they were on the original album or not, there are plenty of familiar gospel songs here including Just a closer walk with thee, Amazing grace, Rock of ages, Softly and tenderly, How great thou art, In the garden, Ave Maria, Whispering hope, He's got the whole world in his hands, Why me lord, The old rugged cross and Precious memories. Less familiar, but definitely one of the original 10 tracks, is Give them all to Jesus. Do better versions exist of these songs? In some cases, yes, but not much better. I rate Cristy's versions highly and in any case, some of those other singers only record the occasional gospel song. The toughest competition comes with Amazing grace, but even here, although I've heard a lot of wonderful covers of this song, Cristy would be high on my list of favorite versions.

Cristy strays from the gospel theme with a couple of love songs (I love you more every day, Love lifted me) but they could be interpreted as gospel songs. Indeed, the Forester sisters also included Love lifted me on their gospel album.

If you like the idea of gospel songs sung in an easy listening country style, this is exactly what you're looking for. And if you want more, there's a companion volume, Footprints in the Sand, Vols. 1 & 2, that is also well worth listening to and which I've also reviewed.

Very seldom do I buy an album where all the songs are to my liking. Christy Lane's One Day at a Time is beautiful, The music is soothing, Chrisy's voice is melodious and all the songs talk about Jesus. It is traditional Christian singing that elevates your mind toward heaven.
