Chantel will change your life,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The One-Day Way: Today Is All the Time You Need to Lose All the Weight You Want (Kindle Edition)
I recently bought this book for Kindle and am not quite finished. But I can say that if you are trying to lose weight and become the best, all around, healthy person you can be then Chantel Hobbs' story will truly inspire you. I've been on a weight loss, training journey for about 14 months now and Chantel's first book, Never Say Diet, has been a constant reference for me along the way. This is a woman who with the demands of life like marriage, family, 4 kids, sick parents, etc. had the dedication and determination to start excercising and change the way she ate and how she went from 349 lbs to now RUNNING MARATHONS. Even though some of her writing seems directed toward women, I am a 48 yo male and I too have been encouraged by her story and successes. I'm not running marathons...YET...but I have dropped almost 80 lbs and am running 5Ks on a regular basis. What I've picked up so far from The One Day Way seems to be a simplification of some of the principles I learned from Never Say Diet. We can't look at life's challenges, such as weight loss, and focus on how high the 'mountain' might be and get discouraged that we can never reach the top. The only way to get to the top of the 'mountain' is by taking one step at a time. That's what you will learn from Chantel...take One Day at a Time and before long you are climbing up the 'mountain' and if you keep climbing you can reach the top!
In summary, read BOTH books and see how Chantel can help you change your life.

same old diet routine with daily encouragement,
By Joan N. "bookwomanJoan" (Whidbey Island, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The One-Day Way: Today Is All the Time You Need to Lose All the Weight You Want (Hardcover)
Chantel lost 200 pounds and has made a living from it. She is a personal trainer, has written two books, been on TV, and has a web site and a video series. She is one more voice in a huge market (pun intended).
Is Chantel's book different enough from others that one should read it? Yes and no. The encouraging aspect of the book is Chantel's insistence that each day be lived on its own. The reader is encouraged to succeed on that day. One is not to worry about yesterday or try to anticipate tomorrow. Think about one success for the day, such as, "Today I will not eat potato chips." Celebrate your success that day and make another success goal the next day. Don't think about long term plans. Enjoy the celebration of one successful day. The disappointing part of the book is that it is the same old "diet and exercise" routine. Chantel has developed her own food and exercise plan but it is like so many others that I found nothing unique with that part of the book. Chantel does say that faith is very much an element of her program. Her emphasis is faith, food, and fitness. As with any "diet" book, it comes down to the bottom line: you must be at the point where you are willing to make a commitment. If you are not ready to change your life, even for one day, don't bother with the book. If, however, you are ready to make a commitment for just one day this book will be an encouragement. After you have had the thrill of the success of one day, you will know you are on your way to a reconstructed life. This book was provided for review by the WaterBrookMultnomah Publishing Group.

A Great Book!,

This review is from: The One-Day Way: Today Is All the Time You Need to Lose All the Weight You Want (Hardcover)
I love this book! I don't say that about many books, particularly non fiction ones, but this one is a keeper. This is not just another weight loss book; it's an encouraging manual that tells readers how to make a positive and lasting change. The premise is this, take success and failure as part of life, and don't get hung up if you stumble. Jump back into the game and move forward, one day at a time - The One Day Way.
Chantel has been there, she struggled with weight issues for years. Finally she lost 200 pounds and kept it off. She knows what it feels like to be desperate for change, and yet powerless to achieve it. Her practical approach tells us not to get hung up on past mistakes but to move forward, focusing on small steps and successes. How many of us are trapped, listening to and believing that we cannot lose weight and cannot get past our mistakes? It's a lie from the enemy, Chantel says, and "You need to ditch that lie." The thing that struck me about her comments about "that lie" was how true this is in other areas of our lives too. The devil has us believing that we'll never achieve or overcome this or that. It is bondage, and God has better things for us. Chantel outlines the thinking and motivation behind this bondage, and shares the tools to break free. Faith, Food, and Fitness - these are the foundational principles upon which new thought patterns, habits, and lives are built. Not only must actions change, but the way we think about ourselves, goals, and achievements must change too. Rebuild your life with good tools, Chantel says, and you will achieve the right kind of success. Bite sized, daily, achievable goals are the ones that build success and are easier to stick with. They are also the ones that are easiest to jump back into if we slip up. Chantel shares nutritional and practical tips to maintain this bite sized success. She also shares The Ten Commandments of The One Day Way to Eat for Weight Loss and Fitness. This includes exercise tips and illustrations. The One Day Way shares Chantel Hobbs' desire to help anyone struggling with weight issues. As I read, I felt as though she was cheering me on, saying "You can do this!" And while I don't have 200 pounds to lose, I wouldn't mind shedding a few excess ones. I now feel like I really have the tools and the insight I need to move ahead and make a good and lasting change. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in losing weight. It can be done, and it can be done well The One Day Way.

Simplified Weight Loss - at last!,

This review is from: The One-Day Way: Today Is All the Time You Need to Lose All the Weight You Want (Hardcover)
Chantel has lost over 200 lbs and KEPT it off! She's the type of person I want to listen to. The One-Day Way: Today Is All the Time You Need to Lose All the Weight You WantSIMPLIFIES weight loss for us one day at a time. Focus on the change you can make today. Celebrate your success today. If you screw up today, it's not the end of ALL your weight loss goals. Today is just one day! We are challenged to make daily goals (and to celebrate our successes) in the areas of faith, food and fitness.
Chantel includes sections on demolishing past failures and actions that lead to failure, laying a foundation for healthy weight loss, building the structure of a new us/life and concludes with a plan for lasting success. Two sets of Ten Commandments are shared: one for "Weight Loss and for Life," and one on how to "Be Fit For Life". Both are great and simple!!!! I realized anew, as I read this book, I am GREAT at setting goals....specific weight loss/work out goals for the week, month, quarter, year, but when I no longer live walking distance from the gym, or when I don't meet a weight loss goal - I'm stymied. I'm an all or nothing type person. If I can't work out, what's the point of eating six small meals a day? If I can't bake bread, what's the point of avoiding french fries? I CAN choose ONE THING to change TODAY. I can do this again tomorrow. A small commitment/change is better than none. For only $13.59 at Amazon, "The One Day Way" is a great investment in your health.

Inspirational,

This review is from: The One-Day Way: Today Is All the Time You Need to Lose All the Weight You Want (Hardcover)
The One Day Way is not a new fad diet. In fact, if you have struggled with weight issues for some time you probably already have most of the information you need. Information like reducing calories, eating balanced meals, eating plenty of protein, don't skip breakfast, keep moving, do cardiovascular exercises, fast and other weight reducing ideas.
What makes this book unique is the inspiration and counsel to see one day as your goal. Don't think about past failures. Don't think about how far you have to go to reach your goals. Just concentrate on doing what is right today to give you better health. Changing the way you look at yourself, the way you think about yourself, and what you say to yourself when you think you have failed are key components of the One Day Way. I think Chantel's positive outlook and mental conditioning are an important part of losing and maintaining weight. We are often defeated before we even begin because we look at our past failures or look at how far we have to go and think we can't do it. This book might be the motivating factor you need to get a new body by starting a new way of living. This book was provided for review by the WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group.

Small Changes Can Lead to Big Results,

This review is from: The One-Day Way: Today Is All the Time You Need to Lose All the Weight You Want (Hardcover)
It's January and what could be more appropriate than to review a weight loss/ fitness/ diet book?
This book seemed appropriate for me since one of my major goals this year is to lose weight and get fit. So I interestedly read The One Day Way by Chantel Hobbs. Overall, I wouldn't say she has anything earth shattering to add to the fitness/ diet discussion. Her advice is your basic "eat less, move more," which is the best way to go about changing your life style and fitness level. Even though Chantel didn't offer me a magic pill or formula to lose my extra 25 pounds, she did say a few things I found motivating. * You can't enjoy rich food if you are indulging every day. My personal experience supports this idea. Did you notice how in early December all the Christmas cookies and candy tasted wonderful but the same goodies don't taste nearly as good at the end of December? Your mouth and body became bored with all the indulgences. * Take a before photo wearing your best clothes, make-up on and hair done. Who wants to look at yourself in work-out gear, no make-up and a greasy ponytail all year?! That's not motivating at all! I really like the idea of a picture that I won't be embarrassed to show to others. * Stop thinking "Bad Habits" and start thinking "Counterproductive Habits." Isn't it funny how changing the term can change your emotions? I have a "bad habit" of snacking after my 4 kids go to bed. This thinking creates guilt and a hopeless feeling. BUT when I think that my snacking is counterproductive to my goal of getting fit I feel more in control of my choice and less guilt over that cup of hot chocolate I drank the other night. * Take small steps to reach your goal. Let's face it, I'm not going to lose 25 pounds and run a 5k overnight! But I can make 1 small change each week that will gradually reduce my weight and increase my fitness level. For example, my change this week is to get up one hour earlier and go for a walk or use my Wii Fit. It's not a huge change but I'm already noticing the difference in my energy and motivation levels. Those are just a couple of small ideas I took away from The One Day Way. Nothing "life changing" but they were enough to make me feel motivated and positive about changing my eating and exercise habits. Isn't that what a good fitness/ diet book should do? Helps with the real problem,
By readaholic (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The One-Day Way: Today Is All the Time You Need to Lose All the Weight You Want (Hardcover)
One thing that Chantel does well is she talks about the real issues behind the weight -- the triggers that set us off. It reminds me of what Danny from season 8 of the Biggest Loser said this year about figuring out what controls us because if we do not do that we will be back heavier than ever. I'm not sure how much of this I have actually thought about before and it has my mind spinning, I mean I often say I eat when I'm depressed, but it's more to it than that. I mean why do these things constantly affect me, and am I really depressed that often? Or maybe it's something more specific than that? Anyhow, like I said this book really got my mind questioning my motives for my weight struggles.
This plan is for more than just weight-loss, it's about living life completely. It is based on the "One Day" at a time theme, and letting go of our past (even if it is as recent as yesterday!) What I like about this book: I was half way through it and I found myself thinking several times: "One Day Way... if I can just last through the day it will be okay.. if I just control my tongue for the next few hours it will be tomorrow and I'll be okay! If I just resist that for the next hour, it will be okay!" And you know what? I did it!!! I was so excited. I mean not just on weight, but on other things in my life that bother me because it's all a chain reaction right? I get frustrated with this and that, and than I end up splurging on food because I'm in a bad frame of mind and than I have made a bad health choice and than I can not seem to bail myself out. I mean seriously, I started reading this book and didn't get it. I didn't understand why she was chatting so much about our brains and honestly by the end, I felt better and I feel motivated to work harder and follow the extremely simple idea and make it work this time! The first 2/3 of the book focus on the issues behind our weight-loss and only the last 1/3 is on how to do the "work", which really isn't even the hard stuff! So, would I recommend this book? Absolutely! I think it hits the battle from another angle that so many of us don't think about. I think it covers more than weightloss and will encourage all around improvement. Thanks to Random House for providing me with a copy of this book for my honest review!

Changing your life is about changing your mind,
By
This review is from: The One-Day Way: Today Is All the Time You Need to Lose All the Weight You Want (Hardcover)
The One Day Way is really a mind-set book. Chantel Hobbs lost about 200 pounds and kept it off. She is now a personal trainer/coach, and has written a series of books designed to help you change the way you change you life.
Most of us follow a pattern of change. We make a resolution, follow it for a while, fall `off the wagon', feel defeated, and forget about it. Chantel's approach could be paralleled with the verse "forgetting what lies behind, pressing forward to what lies ahead". Chantel encourages you to set up a structure for living, and focus only on today - not yesterday, not next month, Today. The first 2/3 of this book are about fixing your brain to work in this new way. The last 1/3 is full of tools for weight loss. What I like most about this book is the fact that it is an incredibly easy read. I read the first two chapters in about 25 minutes. This is the kind of book that you can grab, read, and read again - it would be perfect to keep in the car and use for those times when you are waiting to pick up kids, etc..

Not bad, but not a lot of new info here,
This review is from: The One-Day Way: Today Is All the Time You Need to Lose All the Weight You Want (Paperback)
Are you ready to change your life? Well prepare to do it, one step, one day at a time. This method of weight loss and lifestyle change allows you the freedom to forget the mistakes you may have made yesterday, and focus on what you can do today to help you advance to your goal weight. The key is to start by changing the way you think, then changing the way you act. With words of encouragement, easy sample meal plans, and sample exercises, you have all you need to start the journey to the new you.
I have never read a weight loss book before, so I cannot say if this book is like all the others out there, but I can tell you, in terms of the nutritional and fitness suggestions and aspects of the plan, there is nothing new here. I think people just look for a magical, easy solution, when it all comes down to burning more calories than you consume. But that is hard work, which most people do not want to do. What I did find refreshing and unique was the aspect of faith (not religion, but faith) into the program. And a lot of the things in the book from a faith perspective were really encouraging. It is nice to have a plan focus on the fact that no matter what, if you mess up, tomorrow is a new day to try to do better. The plan does not focus on beating yourself up when you are imperfect. All in all, a book filled with encouraging words, but not too many fresh ideas in terms of diet and exercise. I received this book for review courtesy of the publisher. |
