SC sophomore album transfers schools,
By
This review is from: One Fell Swoop (Audio CD)
I've listened to Sunsets and Car Crashes repeatedly, overcome by the heartfelt lyrics and deeply emotional acoustic guitar, and was excited to hear about a new album. One thing for certain is that I can't even possibly compare the two albums, the sophmore release being almost an entirely new start for the band. Nick Thomas took everything good he gained by creating Sunsets practically on his own and added it to his new encarnation with the accompaniment of traditional band member positions. Both albums are not only some of my new favorite plays on the stereo, but solid and beautiful additions to the music I will listen to for the rest of my life. Whether I'm in the mood for a raw and personal listening experience or a powerful and electric "rock-out" I know I can depend on the Spill Canvas!

Great Cd,

First of all this cd is amazing. It has catchy guitar riffs and melodic hormonies and is very well put together. My favorite song is "Secet Oath" Which brings out a sense of happiness that overcomes you. When i first heard SC's acoustic stuff i liked them a little bit but i did'nt love them. When they came out with One Fell Swoop i was hooked they drew me in with they're pure clean talent. Most "Emo" bands now adays dont have the talent. I strongly suggest "One Fell Swoop" To anyone who likes a talented rock band. Spill Canvas is very good!

I'm usually into more heavy screamo type music but very once in a while I take a risk and buy a cd i've never heard of. And this time i was happy that i did take the risk.
1) The song opens with a soft guitar and drum beat. Then it gets upbeat and the chorus is addicting. 2)This song is probably many fans favorite and I see why. The guitars and drumming are heavier and its a very catchy song. 3)I personally like this song better than stapplegunned. Also upbeat. I love the choros "Fate is an elegence, cold hearted whore..." 4)This song is slower than the other 3 but the lyrics are amazing. The song is about a girl who is a druggie and can't quit her addictions. 5)This song is ok. Not a favorite. 6)Another slow song. I like the song but not so much the lyrics. 7)I find this song boring. Its too long and too slow. I do however like the backround echoing vocals towards the end. 8)More upbeat then 4-7. I like everything about this song. Great lyrics, vocals, and music. 9)I love this song. Catchy and fun. I love the ending "Not even hell can be hotter than you right now" 10)Another slow one but the guitars are really good and as always so are the vocals. I find myself listening to this song quiete often. 11)Also slowish but great lyrics. This is also a great 12) I tend to skip this one. A bit boring 13) Definitley one of the best songs on here. Its a slow song with no drumming but yet its amazing. Amazing lyrics and emotion. Great closer! This band is great but I think they should put more upbeat songs. Some of their slow oness are amazing but others I found boring. Definitley check out this band.

Life-changing album.,

This review is from: One Fell Swoop (Audio CD)
I got the first album by this group about a week before I got this one, the most recent, and I have not stopped listening to them since. This album must be compared with their first - the first album is much more acoustic and raw, whereas the new one adds a lot more punch and energy.
Is it different? Yes. Is it worse? Absolutely not. I go back and forth between the two albums and I honestly can't say which is better. Songs like "This Is For Keeps", "Natalie, Marie, and 1cc" and "Self-Conclusion" have me singing along at the top of my lungs every time.

***My Favorite Band Ever!***
After almost wearing out my copy of Sunsets and Car Crashes, I was very excited for One Fell Swoop to come out. It's very different from the previous CD, but it's still just as worth it. I have been listening to this almost nonstop in my car since I got it, and despite the slightly different sound, the lyrics are still amazing and the songs just...affect you. I don't know how to describe it, but The Spill Canvas just gives me a good feeling, no matter what mood I'm in. So, you should buy this, and if you don't have the other CD, buy that too, and you'll be on your way to becoming a Spill Canvas freak like me! And for some ratings...I'm not good at this so I'm not really going to rate them, just say my personal opinion 1) Lust A Prima Vista-I love it, it's catchy in a well...Spill Canvas sort of way 2) Staplegunned-kind of the lead track of the CD, they already made a video for it-not my favorite, but still good 3)Polygraph, Right Now-GREAT song, one of my favorites, I love the way Nick sounds in this one 4)The Dutch Courage-also good, reminds me a little more of the old stuff 5)Natalie Marie and 1cc-well of course I like this one too! 6)Teleport A&B-decent song overall, but not amazing 7)Break a Leg-I like this one, it's really upbeat for them again and kind of catchy and then changes to the slower end part 8)This is For Keeps-very cool song, I love the lyrics and the sound, it's about a vampire! 9)Himerus and Eros-also a good song 10)Valiant ) 11)Secret Oath ) I love all these too,but I'm sick of typing 12)Bound To Happen ) 13)Self-Conclusion-The reason I gave some of the other songs mediocre feedback is because I didn't listen to them enough to like them because I spent all my time listening to this song. I LOVE THIS SONG! I love the way it sounds, and what it's about, and the movie theme storytelling thing behind it. It's awesome! This is The Tide of One Fell Swoop, it's a story song, but with a happier ending. It's such a true song though, and that's another reason why I love it.

When did i turn into a pansy?,

I don't even know when I changed my outlook on this kind of music. It's hard for me to change my opinion on music once that opinion is made. I am a fan of rock music. In my mind Tool is the greatest band of all time. No changing that. It just is.
So when I first got subjected to emo I labeled it as [...]. "Those whining sissies just need to suck it up and shut up" was my response. Then a friend introduced me to The Postal Service. Changed my outlook on the softer side of what ever you want to call this genre of sound. I then heard a few other emo bands and didn't like them. Ok, now what I'm trying to say is a lot of emo is just [...] and those bands are trying to ride on the back of this cash wave that's coming in due to increasing popularity. But this is not one of those bands. The Spill Canvas does an excellent job at portraying their message. So with that said obviously if you're reading this you already considered purchasing this album and just need a bit of a nudge. I suggest downloading a few songs first. Such as "This is for keeps" or "Self-conclusion." Another song I suggest is from the previous album, Sunsets and Car Crashes. It is called, "Your Evil Soul." Then after you're blown away by those 3 songs buy both of the albums. You will not be disappointed no matter what style you genre loyal to.

So Underrated.,

This review is from: One Fell Swoop (Audio CD)
The Spill Canvas isn't a band that you hear of everyday. They deserve so much more recognition though. Typically I'm not really into this type of music, because other similar bands (Bright Eyes, Daphne Loves Derby, Early November, etc) are quite boring. Sure, they have a couple of good songs here and there, but nothing that would make me stick around and listen. However, the Spill Canvas is amazing, they are very talented. I don't quite remember how I discovered this band, but I'm glad I did.
The lyrics, vocals, music, EVERYTHING is enjoyable. Check out these songs: "All Hail the Heartbreaker" "Staplegunned" "This is for Keeps" "Valiant" "Himerus and Eros"

I just kind of happened onto these guys when I was checking out new bands on the web. I listened to some thirty-second samples of the songs on this album and ran right out to buy it as soon as I could. I have been listening to it non-stop ever since. I'm completely 100% in love with them and having been telling everyone I know how awesome their music is. You will not regret getting this album. Run, don't walk to get it.

In any event, this whole album is AWESOME! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED! A++++ |
