Book Description

8 and up3 and upThe Hamlet Chronicles
It’s the last day of school in Hamlet, Vermont . . . and the last day the Copycats and Tattletales will have Miss Earth as their teacher. But there’s too much going on to be sad. The Sinister Sisters Circus is in town . . . then comes Miss Earth’s wedding to Mayor Grass . . . and then the Fourth of July!

Meanwhile, the mysterious pull Hamlet seems to have on supernatural creatures is hard at work. The beings from the previous books are making their way back into town—the Flameburpers Beatrice and Amos (who technically never left); Rhoda, one of the Four Stupid Cupids; all five of the Five Alien Elves; Baby Tusker from Six Haunted Hairdos; and perhaps most sinisterly, Hubda, the last remaining Siberian Snow Spider. Chaos ensues as the students struggle to keep the various visitors hidden. Meanwhile, Hubda lurks, waiting for the chance to deliver her deadly bite. Don’t miss this satisfying, out-of-this-world wrap-up to a beloved series.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-7–In the seventh and final installment in the series, the two rival groups in Miss Earth's class, the Tattletales and the Copycats, must once again band together to save the day. The remaining Siberian snow spider from Seven Spiders Spinning (1994) has been released by an unknown perpetrator and is making her way back to Hamlet to deliver a fatal bite to one of the youngsters. Simultaneously, Amos the Flameburper, from Three Rotten Eggs (2002, both Clarion), hatches from his cocoon and might be on his own deadly rampage. All of this is happening just in time for the Fourth of July weekend and the wedding of the childrens' beloved teacher. Old characters are back, including an elephant ghost, Fixipuddling aliens, and a desperate cupid. Toss in two sinister sisters who run a circus and an undercover writer, and what you get is an entertaining but exhausting finale to the series. Featuring the same crazy humor found in the previous stories, this book is packed with puns that will amuse children. Maguire makes a good, although at times confusing, attempt to incorporate the major plot points of the other tales so that readers new to the series can enjoy the insanity as much as old fans do.–Carly B.
