Not so fine, February 24, 2010
This review is from: One Fine Day (DVD)
I gave up on this short series after 6 episodes -- skipping to the last to see how it ends. Here's why:
It started out promisingly, in sunny Sydney Australia where we meet the protagonist (played by Gong Yoo), a small time hoodlum, with this adopted family that includes a step-sister who's determined to marry him -- but she has a heart problem cuz many many Korean dramas have to have someone terminally or severely ill (which otherwise doesn't seem to affect their lifestyle). However, he and the family return to Seoul when his long-lost real sister is spotted -- and there the story loses momentum.
One problem is too obvious: Sung Yu Ri as the long-lost sister. She's pretty -- but extremely bland. She's a undead actress who walks and talks -- she's convincing only to those who are taken by her looks. Same goes for the second male lead, Nam Gong Min. In scenes together, they sometimes achieve a negative presence.
Yu Ri's inadequency can be seen when she appears with the cute and vivacious Lee Yeon Hee who plays the step-sister with the heart problem.
Amiable Gong Yoo does well as the brother -- but the role isn't as demanding as the one in
COFFEE PRINCE -- which is my way of saying the scriptwriting doesn't compare, either.
At least there's nice photography and location shooting.
If you're obsessed with any of the actors, you'll probably get more enjoyment out of this than I did.

For really enjoyable, short Korean romantic comedy/drama series try:

Excellent Quality, Wonderful Story..., March 19, 2011
This review is from: One Fine Day (DVD)
The Ya Entertainment brand brings a spectacular product to the market. I have purchased several Korean Drama Dvds in Chinatown released by Chinese distributors and the quality looks like crap, blurry, in pan and scan, and the English subtitles don't make sense at times, appears to be translated using a very poor Korean to English Translation software.
When I first popped in the the first DVD I noticed how vivid, clear and crisp the colors were. It almost looked like it was a Blu Ray Disk, seriously. The format is in 16:9 letterbox already and the everything was so clear. The English Subtitles were well written and made perfect sense. I was totally blown away by the quality of the picture.
The first few episodes in Australia makes me want to visit Sydney, and the later episodes in Seoul, made me want to visit the Aqua World ^_^...The colors and scenary, especially the aquarium are so beautiful in this series. This series is 16 episodes long and has some wierd brother/sister relationships at first, which confused the heck out of me. But after everything is explained, the dramatics unfold. I admit I teared up a few times, and I'm only half way thru it. Well I don't want to spoil the series so I won't say much more than this...but I'm happy this is in my collection.
If you have an HD TV connected by HDMI, you will for yourself why I'm raving about the quality - so close to Blu Ray...The last disk has a special 1 hr "Making of" episode as a bonus it includes a blooper reel which is hilarious!!! If the rest of the titles released by YA Entertainment are of this quality, I'm never buying that crap from Chinatown again...
