4.0 out of 5 stars Must Have For ZZ Fans...First Timers Get The Box...
With the release of the "Chrome, Smoke & BBQ" box, this album is pretty much rendered obsolete. Almost all the tracks presented here are included in the box; and with better sound quality. So for ZZ fans who want to pop this in their car cd player and go, it's a great compilation (with the exception, however, of "Heaven, Hell Or Houston" ...arguably the worst song ZZ...

1.0 out of 5 stars I love ZZ Top but do not love remixed versions of their music! Also, not remastered.
First let me say that I'm a very big fan of ZZ Top. I've seen them live several times and they always put on a great show. Recently, I became aware of the fact that all the 70's records except for 1979's Deguello, as well as 1981's El Loco (same albums on the six pack) were remixed with lots of reverb added and new drum tracks as well. I'm told they thought people...

So for ZZ fans who want to pop this in their car cd player and go, it's a great compilation (with the exception, however, of "Heaven, Hell Or Houston" ...arguably the worst song ZZ ever did...yet it is on almost every "greatest" album or box). If you do not already own any ZZ Top cds, the "Chrome.." 4 cd box is definitely the way to go. You can not go wrong with Billy Gibbons on guitar, period.

5.0 out of 5 stars Have Mercy Reverend Billy!, March 24, 2003

This review is from: One Foot in the Blues (Audio CD)
I am 50 yers old and been playing electric blues/rock most of my life. I know the real thing from the counterfeit, and Billy Gibbons is the "real thang!" When ZZ Top first started becoming popular I was playing in the Memphis tennessee club circuit and the word was getting around about this little blues band from Texas that had been gigging in the area which featured a really hot lead guitarist. When i saw them at the Memphis Coliseum I found out what people were talking about. That's the reputation that they had at the time........hot and funky texas blues. I'm glad this CD was released because it is a good picture of where the band seemed to be heading in the early days. The CD is worth the price paid just for the first three songs alone. Billy Gibbons can play the blues! Nuff said!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rockin' Blues Roots, May 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: One Foot in the Blues (Audio CD)
This CD is a fabulous compilation of that slightly off-kilter Southern rock/blues that distinguishes ZZ-Top from all other rock bands. These boys have a righteous appreciation of the music that built their unique sound. This is a "must have" CD for all rock/blues fans.

Slip in the disc, slip on the cheap sunglasses, (the darker the better) and 'GET DOWN' with ZZ's TOP (best of their best) BLUES! If I could, I'd make it easy on ZZ; "Keep BOTH feet in the 'blues'!" Forget the 'fodder', blot out the 'son'... BARE BONES BLUES! YEAAHHH...that's the way! A definate MUST HAVE! You'll wonder why they bother do anything other

I'm told they thought people wouldn't re-buy these albums on cd's because they already had bought the vinyl. So, they decided to remix them a bit and make them more like their blockbusting MTV style 80's work.

Now, I love 80's Top as much as the next guy or gal but I expect it to be in the decade where it belongs. There's something special about ZZ Top's 70's output, like an old comfortable shoe that just fits (sounds) perfect every time you hear it. Ladies and Gentlemen, as of the date of this post, if you have any of these albums (ZZ Top's First Album, Rio Grande Mud, Tres Hombres, Fandango, Tejas, or El Loco) on CD then you have remixed versions! People have been listening to these new improved versions for 15 or 20 years if they bought these albums on cd. Unless you had the vinyl, cassette or were listening to Best of ZZ Top/Deguello, you've been listening to these remixed versions. Even the radio stations have been playing these remixed versions for years. The other culprit is ZZ Top's Greatest Hits and ZZ Top's Six Pack. These are all remixed on the earlier material.

I'd recommend Rancho Texicano, Chrome, Smoke & BBQ or the remastered editions of Tres Hombres and Fandago if you want to hear the best ZZ Top you've ever heard.

3.0 out of 5 stars Deceptive not all blues, October 17, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: One Foot in the Blues (Audio CD)
Although the CD is good, and I love ZZ Top, it is deceptive because one foot in the blues is not all blues songs: i.e. HiFi Mama, She Loves My Automobile, Heavan Hell or Houston, If Only I could Flag Her Down, etc. These are a mixed bag of Pop/Rock songs thrown in. With a title of one foot in the blues, I expect to hear my wife left me, my dog (who has one tooth) bit me, I ain't go no money and the rent is due. This clearly fell short of a pure blues CD.

If I were to leave only one classic ZZ TOP blues tune off this cd, it would not have been "Blue Jean Blues"..... It's a cryin shame! Hence the missing star.
