I purchased this for my 87 year old mother-in-law who has reached the point where having separate remote for her cable box and her TV were beginning to confuse her. After numerous "I'm not sure what I did, but the TV isn't working," calls I tried dealing with her cable provider (Comcast) who only could offer a very complicated, small-buttoned remote. I bought this hoping it would do the trick. AND IT DOES!

Not only does it control both her cable box (for changing channels) and turns the TV on and off, works the volume and mute functions, it does it all without her even needing her to push either of the two buttons at the top that select which set of functions are being controlled. It all stays in the "TV" mode and works!

She loves it and I haven't had to drive down to help her set things back so she can watch her favorite programming.

It would have been worth twice the price for the way it seamlessly is functioing for her. While I can't state that it will work categorically for everyone, in this case we have a definite winner.

I bought this item to use with my Samsung TV.

Back Story: The original TV remote broke, and I'd been using an old model One For All remote I had used with a different TV in the past. The volume up button quit working properly on it, but I liked it and decided to stick with that brand and ordered this remote.

This Remote: So, I opened it and followed the directions to program the code in for my tv. Easy as pie... every button worked, except for the channel up and down and all the numbers. Bummer, that's kind of important!!! I was about to ask for a refund, when I noticed a slip on paper attached to the instructions with red type that said something about unlocking the channel keys if you're only using it as a tv remote. So, I found those instructions on the sheet, did them 47 times, and my channels never unlocked. I called the phone number that it said to call for troubleshooting, and they were stumped. I am left with s remote that is only useful if you want to do anything except change the channel.

One problem with this remote that I also had with the old model One For All I was using... I could access the tv settings menu, but I wasn't able to scroll through it or make selections in it, so I was stuck with whatever settings it was on. Not a huge deal, but would have been nice to access occasionally.

So, I went through Amazon's return procedures. I buy quite a bit from Amazon, but never had to return an item before. The process was simple and was done all online. They refunded my money, and told me NOT to send the item back. So, I went online and found which model Samsung remote came with my tv originally, found that exact model remote on Amazon for about double the price this remote was, and it's on it's way. I figure you can't go wrong with the one that the tv came with

5 stars...quicker and simpler to let the unit do the search while you sit there and punch a few buttons...and " VISIT". Purchased for my elders who can still punch the "number" buttons instead of scrolling through the entire cable list. So we needed "NUMBERS" with ample size buttons. Needed a "BIG" Mute button...not huge but larger than most. Stupid to put the set-up button near the On-Off button but at least it is not where you could press it ..."just by simply "holding it"". Works with no issues. Since I bought two for the two that use them in the same room...I took the thick type of "super glue" and secured any buttons I did "NOT" want pressed for the one elder that ...just may do that. Always a learning curve so I took cut-out white paper with bold blue print and arrows and pointed same to the "channel-volume- mute buttons" covered-secured it with clear tape...until they get the hang of where those main uses are...later I can remove the "helpful labels". SO cheap it is worth a try when compared to the others that did NOT have the VISIBLE rather LARGE BUTTON features we needed. GOOD LUCK!!!

The whole point of a "simple big button" remote is that it be easy to use and not confusing for seniors or Significant Others (SO) who are not technically inclined. In their attempt to reuse the volume and channel buttons for left/ right , up/down in TV menu mode they created a real mess. What happens if you want to access TV functions under the TV menu control is that you push the menu button on the remote and it starts flashing its Red LED and the TV menu comes up. Then you use the Volume & Channel up/down to navigate the menu, and finally push the enter button on the remote. According to the manual the remote stays in "menu" mode with the light flashing either until the remote times out or until you press the menu button again. It doesn't actually work that way - the remote stays flashing in menu mode until it times out. Pressing the menu button again does not end the menu mode - it just prolongs the time out time.

There are two big problems with this - if my SO accidentally hits the menu button it starts flashing and continues flashing for what seems like a long time. It looks to a non technical person like it is broken with that flashing light on the remote. And during this time you cannot change the channel or volume with the channel and/or volume up/down buttons - and they are quite clearly labeled channel and volume on the remote. This can be frustrating to a user with a bad memory. This alone is enough to make me return the remote.
