5.0 out of 5 stars The Doctor of Funk proclaims this album the #1 Funkateer
Back in the day, when I was a college DJ, I was known as the Doctor of Funk. Part of the reason was this album right here. This album (beginning to end) is by far the best Bootsy release ever! Picking a favorite song from this album is like trying to choose one entree from a buffet. One day it's one song, the next day is another song. I have the 45 from Take A...

3.0 out of 5 stars Ahh The Songs are shorter but they are still FUNKY
I was a bit shocked when I started listening to this album. After being used to hearing LONG FUNK CLASSICS from BOOTSY, these jams were much shorter! "Shine-O-Mite" started this set of FUNK DIDDIES but "Countracula through me off especially when I found out that "BODY SLAM" should have been the choice to be included here. Think about it!! If "BODY SLAM" had been put...

I have the 45 from Take A Lickin'.... and I purchased two cassettes and an LP. I wore all of them out years ago. And with so many great P-funk albums out from Bootsy, Clinton, The Brides, Parliament, Parlet, Funkadelic and the others, if I could take one p-funk album with me on a deserted island, and it can not be a compilation or best of album, this would be the one. If you are a true old school funk fan, this is a MUST HAVE in your collection. Take this prescription from the Doctor of Funk. You're Gonna have to take your shoes off, and kick up your feels like the foot stranger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bootsy's overall BADDEST album!!!, June 9, 2002
This review is from: The One Giveth, The Count Taketh Away (Audio CD)
It's too hard to decide which Bootsy album is his best overall, but jam for jam, this one is Bootsy's BADDEST!! If this album was a movie, it would be a sci-fi/action-adventure/comedy blockbuster!! It blows you away, makes you laugh out loud, mellows out just long enough to let you catch your breath, and leaves you with a big smile on your face! It's no accident that a whopping 5 songs from this supposedly forgotten album are featured on Bootsy's anthology CD, "Glory B, Da Funk's On Me," and at least 3 other songs could have easily made the cut. Trust the fans on this one: true funkateers either have this album, or they will go to great lengths to get it!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Takes A Lickin' And Keeps On Tickin', October 10, 2006
This review is from: The One Giveth, The Count Taketh Away (Audio CD)
I never thought this album got the props it deserved. One of Bootsy's funkiest !!! From "Shyne O Myte" to "The Funky Functioneer" every track is P-Funk, Un-Cut Funk....DA BOMB !!! Bootsy was way ahead of his time. The things this cat can do with a bass. I remember buying this album back in 1982 when it was released and off and on I've been playing it ever since. Eventhough I bought the cd, ain't nothing like watching that vinyl go round and round and listening to Casper's voice exploed thru those Cerwin Vegas in the crib. "Excon of Love" is the joint ! All of Booty's slow jams were. Just didn't get the credit they deserved. If you have this one...you are of the funk - if you don't have it....GET IT...and become one with the funk.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Can I Say???..., November 14, 2008

I first bought this album in 1982.
I was 22 years old at the time, and a huge music fan. My musical tastes
ranged from rock to classical to pop and I was a big fan of ...
Parliament!
Bootsy was the bass player for the group and I immediately became a fan.
"Stretching Out In A Rubberband" was played til the grooves fell off.
When "The One Giveth..." came out I was very excited. After one play, I became an even bigger fan of the guy. "Land shark", "Countrackula", "Excon"...all classics.
The album didn't get much play at the time, and I never understood it. It should rank along side Bootsy's best.

the last great bootsy record from the 80's before casper dissapeared for 6 years, underrated, and forgotten, i forgot about this for a moment to until i heard low profile sample shyne-o-mite in 1989, i was like damn that's bootsy. and my favorite all time track ex con of love had bootsy survived longer in the 80's he would have gave prince and rick james a run for their money. the last great p-funk record until gansts rap saved the funk.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ahh The Songs are shorter but they are still FUNKY, March 21, 2008

If "BODY SLAM" had been put on this album instead of "Countracula" (which BODY SLAM was based on anyway) would that have made this albums sales SLAMMING????? Wouldn't have BOOTSY have gotten a NEW RECORD DEAL and not have to WAIT 6 YEARS TO REEMERGE??? "#1 Funkateer" was my favorite song here but "Take A Lickin & Keep On Tickin" put a RUMP IN YOUR BUMP! And "Excon Of Love" takes ya back big time! Since I have reviewed this album before, I don't want to talk about what may have been wrong but what is really RIGHT and that is that I am more then proud that most of this great album appeared on BOOTSY'S ANTHOLOGY "DA FUNKS ON ME" and rightfully so and REMEMBER DA PWCMUSICNETWORK is not partial to anyone!! I JUST TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....................

I never knew anything about P-funk,The Rubber Band or any of his work prior to this one. I think it was '82 when it came out. Ever since then I've been a huge fan. This is the one album that got me hooked on the older stuff. Im not an old timmer, just an Old schooler, and this album is one of my all-time favorites.
