5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing yet Classic
The songs on this album all have very heartwarming themes. They are also upbeat and refreshing while upholding the qualities of classic country. This album gets played often in my home.

1.0 out of 5 stars I wish that I could get my money back
I watched George Canyon on Nashville Stars. I liked his voice and some of the songs that he did on the show. I bought this cd with hopes of hearing more good sounds from him. I was very disappointed. Mr. Canyon can not compete with the Brad Cotter's and Rascal Flatts of the world. If he wants to make it in the country business, he needs to go back to country. Take the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Go George Go!!!!!!!!!!, October 5, 2004

I have just listened to this CD and I love it!!!!!!!!!! Ever since I first heard George sing on Nashville Star, I knew he had to win. I was surprised that talent like that could come from Nova Scotia, my home province as well. He amazed me with his first note. I don't care what anyone else says, he deserved to win Nashville Star 2. But here in Canada, he will always be our Nashville Star. But onto the CD. His new hit "I'll never do better than you" is so sweet. I think it's a great song about how he can do better in anything, execpt when it comes to his wife and kids. It's a beautiful song. One of my other favorites is "My Name" which is about the view of life from an unborn child. And all the other songs are really good too. Plus Paul Brandt sings background vocals in "Letting Go". So I would suggest to anyone and everyone - go buy this CD! Love you George!!!;)

I just happened upon the video of "My Name" and I had to have it. I was not disappointed at all in the whole CD. Its great! He sings such meaningful and heartfelt songs. They really touched me. Alot of his songs give you a sense of his faith in God. I wish they would play more of his music on the radio. I would recommend this CD to anyone. He's got a great voice and great looks too!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Grand Slam Home Run For George Canyon!, November 5, 2004
This review is from: One Good Friend (Audio CD)
I expected a great cd from George Canyon because he made his amazing talent so obvious to me on Nashville Star II. Every track on "One Good Friend" is hit quality! George Canyon has hit a grand slam home run with this one! (Red Sox Rule!)
1. Who Would You Be: a poker game among friends, where each focuses on the person he would like to be.
2. Unfinished: a plane flight gone awry, life flashing before eyes, wishing to right some wrongs.
3. Workin on Ten: up-tempo, catchy story of a guy in love with his knock-out girl.
4. My Name: tear-jerker story of miscarriage from the unborn baby's view.
5. I'll Never Do Better Than You: wishing for better material things in life doesn't diminish his appreciation of his family relationships.
6. Hell Or High Water: another catchy, up-tempo tune where desiring the preacher's daughter is a source of anguish for this guy.
7. Letting Go: haunting tale of soldier's struggle to let go of guilt and memories of war. The vocals by George Canyon and Paul Brandt will stay with you long after song is over.
8. You're In The Right Place: good series of stories about one road ending and another beginning in life situations.
9. Bird In December: story song of a heart-broken girl that didn't leave a bad relationship in time.
10. One Good Friend: how wonderful to have a spouse that's a treasure as a wife and your best friend as well.
Back to traditional country with this 5 star debut for George Canyon! Try it...you'll love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong commercial honky-tonk country debut, December 28, 2004
This review is from: One Good Friend (Audio CD)
Mining much the same territory as hat act dudes like George Strait and Tracy Lawrence, Canadian newcomer George Canyon is a gruff-voiced neotradder who isn't in the slightest little bit afraid to record super-formulaic material. Mostly, it pays off real well. Despite some of its by-the-numbers aspects, his album has a vigorous feel, and several songs you just gotta love, like the dopey "Working On A Ten," which revisits the whole rating-gals-on-a-one-to-ten-scale thing, and the religiously themed "Unfinished," in which a guy's life flashes before him in a moment of danger, and after taking stock of his own shortcomings, he decides to do better and make himself a better man. It's unashamedly, unselfconsciously corny material, and that's one of the reasons it works so well... The other reason is that the production is relatively restrained -- oh, sure, it's factory made and totally Nashville, but it still has some grit to it, and the propulsive approach Canyon and his band use plows along and pulls us with it. A couple of songs towards the end are only so-so, but mostly this is a commercial country album you can listen to from start to finish, without having to skip tracks or hit fast forward. Hope he can keep it up, because this is one of the decade's most promising commercial country debuts.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Good Friend, March 13, 2005
This review is from: One Good Friend (Audio CD)
This album is amazing - proof that 14 years in the business is paying off in spades for this down home Nova Scotia boy. "my Name" is so powerful it could carry this album alone but it doesn't have to because every song on this album showcases his vocal talents. My favorite song on this album has got to be "You're in the right place". I highly recommend that this album should be in every country fan's collection, you won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars One Good Friend, November 8, 2004

This review is from: One Good Friend (Audio CD)
I expected a good CD from George Canyon but this far exceeded my expectations. It's outstanding! Most CD's have some fluff but there is not one weak song on this one. What sets country music apart from other genre's is the great story telling and every song on this CD tells a terrific story. They all bring out some emotion within the listener with some bringing you to tears, some making you want to roll down the windows and crank it up and some just make you feel good and treasure those you love. It's a perfect balance of songs in a variety of tempos. And through it all the importance of faith, family and music to George cannot be missed. And of course that unmistakable voice of his makes it perfect. It's a CD that can be appreciated by more than just country fans. Buy it; you won't be disappointed!
