David, Zoot, Abbey and Robyn were about as close as friends could ever be. But then David is taken into hospital for a serious urgent operation, which will have an impact on all their lives. Previous titles by the same author include "You Win Some, You Lose Some" and "The Other Side of the Fence".

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 7-12-- Four teenagers have been friends for years. As the story opens David and Abbey, both natural leaders, have recently become a romantic couple. The other two, Robyn and Zoot, remain good friends and the popular quartet remains intact. Suddenly their expanding world is constricted by David's hospitalization for cancer surgery and eventual death. Using Robyn as her narrator, Ure dramatizes successfully the effect of unexpected tragedy on young minds and emotions. The young characters are believable, appealing, and complex; they mature awkwardly as real young people do. The more important adult characters become three-dimensional as Ure's narrator gains insight and understanding. A novel in which the twin themes of friendship and loss are well handled. --Tess McKellen, Packer Collegiate Institute, Brooklyn NONFICTION
