I was so excited to receive a review of Iris Schreier's latest book, One + One Hats from Lark Crafts and decided it was time to give my review and thoughts on this book. One + One Hats showcases not only the luxurious line of yarns from Iris Schreier's company, ArtYarns, but showcases designs by Brooke Nico, Annie Modesitt, Woolly Wormhead, the author herself and many more.

So, what do I love about this collection? Well first, I have to say that I love the fact that these projects require just two skeins of Iris's luxurious yarns. Second, this collection features very unique one of a kind designs, which means you will find simple to complex designs that feature double-knit, stranded colorwork, slip stitches, cables and bobbles, lace, and side to side and bias knits. If you are budget conscious, Iris has also included a yarn substation chart in the back of the book that features LionBrand yarns, which I found to be quite helpful.

Not only will knitters be captivated by the collection found inside this book, but will be happy to find designs that meet every skill level. This is a great book to add to your collection or to give as a gift to a fellow knitter!

This delightful book published by Lark is filled to the brim with wonderful hat patterns, many of which I'd like to knit. All of the patterns can be knit with two skeins of yarn.

The book is divided into sections: Simple Stitches, Lace, Stranded Colorwork and Slip Stitch, Cable and Bobbles, Side-to-Side and Bias, and Double Knit.

Dotson Hat is knit with Artyarns Supermerino and is easy to knit up. Eleganza has a real flair and is also to knit. It utilizes the same yarn as the previous hat. The Drawstring Hat with a Little Splash is knit with Artyarns Silk Rhapsody and is in a lace pattern. The Swirl Hat is also lace and is knit with Artyarns Cashmere Glitter. The Bobble Hat is whimsical and unusual, certainly one I want to knit up soon. It is knit with Artyarns Supermerino yarn.

I could go on and on. The gist of the book is that it is an ode to the wondrous possibilities of Artyarns with hats designed by different designers. It is a great book, especially for those who have knit hats previously.

This book contains a lot of lovely projects as well as some rather funny looking things (e.g. soft cloche!, bobble hat) and some downright ugly things (e.g. helmet liner) but alas, it is a matter of personal taste. My personal favorite is the lace beret (big picture on front cover). I have already made five or so attempts to knit this thing, never getting very far. It is knit from the top down but the way I understand the instructions the number of increases and decreases remains the same over several rows so it turns into a tube rather than a round shaped top of the hat. I am not a very experienced knitter so maybe its my fault. If anyone who has already knitted the lace beret can clear this up for me I would be hugely grateful. To conclude this review: I am in doubt about the book. If I get the lace beret done I will award more stars...

The patterns are up-to-date stylish and easy to knit, directions are precise and very understandable, even to novice knitters.
Great "Techniques" section with good illustrations. A Must Buy if you knit and love hats.

Not what I was expecting. The instructions are not clear and the hats are not that unique.

I am interested to know if there have been any corrections published for this book. The instructions for Ear Flap Hat designed by Lynn M. Wilson, Round 9 of brim are to knit and increase. That doesn't match the picture. There would then be two rows of knitting in a garter stitch pattern. Is that correct? I am in the process of knitting the hat for the second time. The first time I changed that round to a purl row. Certainly curious to me and I am a seasoned knitter..

Nothing inspirational in here. Patterns are pretty but similar can be found on the internet for free. I liked the two skein idea but don't waste your time.
