This review is from: One Hungry Monster : A Counting Book in Rhyme Board Book (Board book)
A few years ago, I borrowed this book (the complete version) from the library and it quickly became a favorite of my 2 sons. Being their fav, I memorized the whole rhyme and even told it to one of their preschool classes on Halloween. They both asked for the story all the time so when my daughter was born, I knew that I would soon be telling it to her also. When I found it in a board edition I thought I had struck gold! I received my shipment today and was pleased as punch. The first thing I did was sit down with my daughter to pass down a much loved story, until I got near the end of the book and it ended before the actual story was over!!! I was so disappointed in this version and so were my sons! Good thing I know the complete story by heart. The original, full version would get a 5 star rating from me.

Me and my 2 1/2 year old boy just LOVED this book. He is very much into numbers and has been counting for a few months, so I got this book for him. It's one of the few books he sits for through the whole story. He especially loves the page for "four" ;).
It is also good for his older brother, who is in kindergarden and learning how to read / spell the number words.

Awesome kids rhyming book,
This review is from: One Hungry Monster : A Counting Book in Rhyme Board Book (Board book)
This is one of my favorite kids rhyming books. I stumbled upon this book at a local library and ended up buying it. It's a fantastic book with great pictures, reads fast at bedtime, and you don't mine rereading numerous times to your kids which they request over and over. I love to buy this book for new moms. There are deleted pages from the small board book verus the larger library book.

I don't know how Max (two and a half years old) came up with the idea of monsters. All of a sudden they were there, and he was as scared as only little kids can be. In the evening, he looked at the window with big wide eyes and whispered, "Papa, dark. Monsters!" I said, "No, Max. There are no monsters. They're all asleep. The monsters make night-night when it gets dark. Just like you." Not much use. Five minutes later he asked in a low voice, "Papa, monsters?" "No, Max . . ."Since I could not simply shoo the monsters away, I decided to invite them in. The first guest was "One Hungry Monster." In fact, there appear ten little monsters in the course of the story; and a little boy who tries to keep the monsters from licking at paintings, hanging from chandeliers and other acrobatics in their search for something to eat. The monsters are cuddly, furry creatures with cute bulging eyes. Illustrator Lynn Munsinger makes them look rather lost and helpless in their greedy search for crackers, with just the right touch of mischievousness. By Max's definition they are "naughty." Essentially, they are doing most of the things he is not allowed to do. Max thinks that is rather funny, and he laughs out loud at their antics. The morning after introducing "One Hungry Monster" (and its nine friends) to Max, he inquired eagerly, "Papa, monsters?" And dad said, "Yes, Max, you can see the monsters. I get you the monster book. But don't forget to eat your breakfast . . ." I love this book!

I was disappointed with the board book, which is a shortened version of the paperback. It left out the most important rhyme, when the boy puts the rude monsters in their place: "Get out, get out! I loudly shout. You've made a mess and then, no less, you ate my food, and were quite rude....." The paperback is well-worth getting. It is fun, educational, and leaves you with a smile on your face.

Great rhythm. We love the flow of this book. Wonderful way to learn to count. My daughter loved this as a toddler and always hand it to read to her. Now my daycare kids love for me to read it. We love that we can count to ten twice and how the little boy gets mad at the end and kicks the monters out of his house. This is a sweet fun book to read.

A Great Book For Any Child!,

My boys (now 3 & 4) love this book so much, I am buying a 2nd copy b/c the 1st is so worn out! This book is fun, imaginative, & very catchy. My husband & I know it by heart we've read it so much. It's one of those you never get tired of. Don't be leery of the "monsters"- these are friendly little creatures in this book!
My favorite line in the book is "...drooling at commercials for sauerkraut & beans..". LOL, ick, but what a hoot! Get this for your child.

I LOVED THIS BOOK WHEN I WAS LITTLE!,

This review is from: One Hungry Monster : A Counting Book in Rhyme Board Book (Board book)
This is a wonderful book that is great for little kids. I loved this book when I was little and had people read it to me so often that I memorized it. Infact, it helped me learn how to read, because after I memorized it I started looking at the book and was able to pick out those words in other books. No, it didn't let me start reading novels in a couple of days :). But it was a great place to start!

This review is from: One Hungry Monster : A Counting Book in Rhyme Board Book (Board book)
This book is so cute. The rhymes are well done and fun to read. It's entertaining, even the 50th time. The illustrations are great and we get to count each monster as the story progresses. Highly recommended!
