Ammoncontact - One In An Infinity Of Ways, March 10, 2011
This review is from: One in An Infinity of Ways (Audio CD)
AmmonContact, another heavyhitter on the burgdeoning "dublab" scene smacks it out of the part with "One in an Infinity of Ways." While maintaining a funky vibe, they're able to throw together some nice melodies in the meantime. Listen, for example, to how the beats drop out of "Healing Vibrations" for the meandering strings to take over. "Infinity of Rhythm Instrumental" starts out with African drumming before shifting into funky hip-hop, and finally right into outer space, suspending its jazzy elements seemingly in mid-air. The kitchen sink apprach works well for them. Their reliance on samples isn't as pronounced as with some of their other dublab compatriots (though you can hear Daedelus' influence on "Dreamy"), which leads to a more organic feeling. The stand-up bass on "Like Waves of the Sea" manages to groove out while maintaining strong jazz credibility. Meditative and righteous.
