I am a birth mother of which Nicole helped me to locate my daughter that I placed for adoption. Her story is one of courage, endurance and success. She is one of the most special people I have ever come to know even though I have never met her in person. I would love to see her continue to write more about locating a birth parent or child. I know I probably would never have met my daughter if it had not been for her. Great Read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good read for everyone!, January 7, 2008
This review is from: One Life (Paperback)
I am a cousin to the author's birth mother, which is why I bought the book! Now, I am grateful for the revelation, because I may not have otherwise even have known of it's existence. The book is very well written, and the story is heartwrenching, invigorating, and so real! My husband is also adopted and never chose to find his birth parents. He is such a wonderful man that I regret his birth parents never got to meet him. I loved the book and all it's honesty. I think it should be a "Book" choice for Oprah. What a great story and what a happy ending/beginning!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and a great read!, January 7, 2008
This review is from: One Life (Paperback)
I am one of the author's aunts and I can't tell you how moved I was about Nicole's story; afterall, she was a stranger to me for over thirty years.
Yet, I was there during my sister's ordeal, but never knew the extent of the pain and heartache she endured...until I read "One Life". Reading about Nicole's life was inspiring, surprising, and gut-wrenching all at the same time. Not only is the book well written, it is inspiring to know what strength is inside each and everyone of us to endure, seek, and ultimately find our selves.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Story of Pain and Triumph, February 14, 2008
By
This review is from: One Life (Paperback)
The author is someone I have known for about a year and although I was not part of her past, we have shared some of the same struggles. One Life is a book that is easy to read because it could have happened to any one of us. The reader can identify with the fear, anger, happiness, uncertainty and all of the other emotions felt in this writing. I would recommend reading this book and hope Nicole will continue to write and express her creativity. She has so much to offer the world and I wish her every happiness. D Davies

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling, January 26, 2008
This review is from: One Life (Paperback)
I too am an adoptee, so I know that Nicole speaks from the heart. Her story is compelling, emotional, and truly heartfelt. Read one woman's account of struggle, pain, and most important, love and perserverance. I whole-heartedly recommend this book for both its insight and message. Nicole is a courageous and skilled writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare yourself to be glued to your chair from start to finish, January 25, 2008
This review is from: One Life (Paperback)
One Life is a gripping, heart-wrenching story of an adopted woman's journey to wholeness. Nicole Holmquist's courage and strong core-self are the key to her survival in a struggle that many with less strength would not manage to do. This well-written narrative is a must read. - Joe Soll, LCSW, psychotherapist and author of Adoption Healing... a path to recovery and co-author of Evil Exchange .

4.0 out of 5 stars Celebration of Spirit, January 21, 2008
By
AUNT DIANE (LOUISIANA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Life (Paperback)
This book is a celebration of spirit and its ability to triumph even through dark times. This heartfelt account has clarity of spirit. A must read for all searchers teetering on the edge of giving up.
A story for modern times, reminescent of the old Grimm's Fairy Tales, where the poor beset little one is guided by a manfestation of goodness that leads to, not only the way through the fearfull darkness of being lost or abandoned, but to the bright happy ending/beginning.
I read this book in one of the initial drafts. It hasn't changed much because it is straight from the heart.
It inspires focus on a simple truth which lies in your very center. When your spirit has such focus, and you never lose hope, a successful journey becomes possible. True selfless love is never lost, it spirals around again and again. In the person of this author, we are being revisited by it and can expect to see it again for generations.
