Editorial Reviews

Review

One Liners For Life is a great book that brings comfort to anyone's life. I started to read a quote everyday and I enjoyed it so much that I began to use "The message in a bottle" idea that the book gives. I would write a quote on a piece of paper and place one a friends desk at work. It's a fun way to make friends and family feel good. Being a teacher, I read these in class and the students love reflecting on the quotes. It's a great discussion piece! -zoot-zoot

From the Author

I love small messages that catch me off guard and suddenly remind me of something I forgot or prompt thinking. I believe that every day we have a chance to make a better life for ourselves. We need inspiration to help us see things differently. Many of these messages are similar but say things in a different wording. That's done on purpose because everyone relates to different words and perspectives. This is the kind of message reference book to pick up from time to time and reread. You never know what spark will be the one to make a meaningful self-edit for a better life. The messages are really meant to jolt your thinking and be a catalyst for a better life. The short messages are also totally up to you to interpret in a way that is meaningful to you. Some of the most obvious messages are the ones for which we need constant reminding. Have fun with this book. May you have a healthy and happy life, Susan Spira

4.0 out of 5 stars neat little book October 31, 2013
Format:Paperback
Just as I mentioned in my review of The Happy Tips Book, I enjoy reading literature that focuses on well-being. One-Liners for Life is a small book filled with over 400 one-liners, some of which are little gems that inspire, motivate and remind. Reading through this book, these are just some of the ones I really liked:

-Daily re-gift kindness.
-Perception: one size doesn't fit all.
-Don't let self-doubt rain on your brain.
-Learning is a lifelong challenge.
-You don't know everything.
-The sign of being a grown-up is when you are no longer tempted to find a new you because you are in love with the old you.

This is a great book to carry in your purse, share with your friends or use to meditate when you have a few spare moments during the day. I use it in my day programs with seniors as conversation starters. It's clear that the author's message is about enhancing one's life and making room for self-growth and positivity. What's not to like about that?

This little book serves as a great reminder for every day life. One-Liners for Life, Simply Profound Messages by Susan Spira has great one-line quotations that can be used for all facets of life. I found many I could relate to, and they pushed me to view situations in a more positive light. I will be able to reread this book and relate to others as I continue to grow and as my life continues to change. If you are looking for a book to read or to give someone that needs reminding of life's great journey and how to stay positive, look no further!

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth a look August 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
One-Liners for Life is a very good little book. It is filled with lots of quotes and little sayings that are meant to inspire you to live a better life. They touch on everything from work to friends to just general day to day problems. One of my favorite quotes from the book is "Deciding how to spend your time is one of the hardest choices of your life."
Susan Spira does a wonderful job of covering a great many topics with her inspirational messages. There is something in this book for everyone at every stage of life. I guarantee at least one quote will sit with you after you finish this book.
This book is perfect for anyone that loves quotes or just likes a little inspiration. Definitely worth a look!

Almost the same a Life's Little Instruction Book by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
Some of the one liners could be compiled into a note to someone.

2.0 out of 5 stars One line might have been better... August 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The book features 400 one-line lines about love and life and people and places and whatever else. If you're familiar with Heinlein's Time Enough For Love, these are basically along the line of Lazarus's musings for life.
This covers the gauntlet from the remarkably obvious ("Embrace change." or "Life is not static.") to the merely common sense if we thought about them ("Stop trying to impress others; impress yourself by coming first in your own life."). A few of them are really quite odd, such as "Chilling out is a personal revolution to step off the merry-go-round and re-prioritize you." What?

I have to say, I don't think there's much of a point to this in eBook form. It feels like one of those undersized books that you pay too much for and gift to friends with chicken noodle soup or leave on their desks when they're having bad times. These feel like statements waiting to be made into cheesy memes only to be over-circulated on Facebook.
A lot of them are redundant - tweak a word or two and then all of a sudden you have two lines instead of just one. And really, all 400 of them boil down to a few very basic things: be a good person, take care of yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually, and give love to others. It really doesn't take 400 one-liners to know that, does it?
Also, there were a few grammar issues here and there - not many, but I caught them, and, well, they drive me nuts. As a side note, the proper word is "okay" - "ok" isn't really technically a word.

I suppose I should have known better. I mean, I knew what I was getting into and yet I still hoped this was going to have something that made it different or better or worth it. But alas.
I wish the author the best, but I'm glad I didn't pay for this one.
I give it 2/5.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very inspirational phrases. May 31, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was looking for inspirational messages to use on my art journal pages and this book is perfect for that. It is short but since the each saying in only a few words long there are lots of them included. I got this book as a Kindle freeby so the price was great for what I got. On my PC the book had about 40 pages of sayings with about 10 on each page. That is about 400 inspirational messages--that's pretty good in my opinion.
