5.0 out of 5 stars back to the roots, April 8, 2001

This review is from: One Lord,One Faith,One Baptism (Audio CD)
In the middle of the 80s, when Techno and Dance win all over the world, Aretha discovers her roots, singing a real, deep, hard gospel, in her native church in Detroit, where her fathew Rev. C.L. Franklin (died in 84) used to deliver sermons. A little jewel of gospel music, whith guest star as Mavis Staples, Aretha's sisters, Erma and Carolyn, and Rev. Jessie Jackson.

It is no secret, that Aretha Franklins musical roots are planted in gospel music. "One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism", is a musical gospel tour deforce, that will rock you off your behind, after one listen. Although, not as polished as her classic "Amazing Grace", this recording makes you feel as though you were in the church that very day. Her take on "Oh Happy Day", is extra special with the addition of friend mavis Staples, who shares vocals with Aretha, throughout many of the songs on the cd. "Packing Up, ready To Go" and "Higher Ground", are full fledged gospel rockers, that give you that church like gospel revival sound, that is so uplifting. I haven't figured out why Arista has not released the cd in the states. It went out of print many years ago, but it is a recording that truly deserves to be put back on the shelf. I have seen the cd on e-bay for as little as $10.00, for those of you who would like a bargain. Give this a try, I think any Aretha fan would enjoy it tremendously.
