More About the Author

Lynne Truss is a writer and journalist who started out as a literary editor with a blue pencil and then got sidetracked. The author of three novels and numerous radio comedy dramas, she spent six years as the television critic of The Times of London, followed by four (rather peculiar) years as a sports columnist for the same newspaper. She won Columnist of the Year for her work for Women's Journal. Lynne Truss also hosted Cutting a Dash, a popular BBC Radio 4 series about punctuation. She now reviews books for the Sunday Times of London and is a familiar voice on BBC Radio 4. She lives in Brighton, England.

4.0 out of 5 stars Audio CD is fantastic!, December 4, 2007

The 5 hour audio version of this book IS hilarious. Robert Bathurst is astounding with his multiple character voices and knowing side comments he makes directly to the listener. This is true Brittish farce, a caper that reaches ridiculous proportions but your having so much fun that you suspend your disbelief and laugh out loud. One character likes the "F" word and another has a steamy bedroom scene, so it is not for the timid sort. I highly recommend it as good writing and great story telling!

5.0 out of 5 stars ExTremeLy FuNNy, January 8, 2008
I picked up this audio book as a fluke. I was positively suprised. I like English humor. Also, I enjoy not knowing what is going to happen next. I listened to this book on my way from and to work: I could not stop laughing. I can only imagine the other drivers at 6am watching me laugh out loud to myself while stopped in traffic, they must have thought I was CrAZy!

2.0 out of 5 stars A Kingsley Amis pastiche, November 30, 2005

This review is from: With One Lousy Free Packet of Seed (Hardcover)
I ordered this book from the library, after it was briefly referred to as "hilarious" in a recent review of "Talk to the Hand: The Utter Bloody Rudeness of the World Today, or Six Good Reasons to Stay Home and Bolt the Door". Sadly, I found that it didn't live up to its billing.

It's not a dreadful book, and certainly it is better than any first novel that I am likely to write. But neither its characters nor its storyline are very interesting, and I can certainly see why it faded into obscurity when it was originally published.
