Great Debut,

You know, Kimberly Locke was such a huge personality on American Idol II that I was afraid she would alienate large audiences more used to the packaged popstars usually crammed down our collective throats. I was pleasantly surprised when she made it to the final 3 contestants that season and even more pleasantly surprised to see her album on the future releases section of Amazon. Now that the album is out, almost exactly a year after AI2 ended, listening to it shows it was worth the wait. Kimberly breezes through a handful of genres - nothing too heavy or complex, but all of the songs are perfectly suited to her voice and range. Highlights include 8th World Wonder, a perfectly-crafted pop song, Have You Ever Been in Love, a perfectly-crafted, guitar-driven love song, and the quirky but catchy It's Alright, a little pop ditty about acceptance and friendship. The duet with Clay is also good, and it's nice to see their friendship has translated into artistic collaboration as well. It's a unique thing being able to watch someone go from complete obscurity to pop star status, but of all the people I've watched on American Idol, I think Kimberly (and Clay) handled it with more dignity and style than anyone else. Through extreme makeovers and stylists/publicists/agents trying to make her 'into' something, it's gratifying to see she held her ground and produced an album that shows she already knew who she wanted to be and had the guts to do it her way.

Pleasant surprise,

I am one of those people who didn't watch American Idol 2, and don't enjoy such karoke type shows, but was convinced by my crazy little sister to purchase 'One Love'. I was pleasantly surprised by how great it is. Kimberley's vocals captured me in her jazz-filled bluesy rendition of 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow'. She was able to renew the song, make it her own, and make someone who utterly loathed the song, completely love it. Her heart-felt version of Bonnie Raitt's 'I Can't Make You Love Me' is powerful and heart-moving. Now the rest of the CD is also very good. From beautiful ballads like 'Before', gospel-like 'Now I Can Fly', rock cuts like "Wrong' and 'Have You Ever Been In Love', to fun pop tunes like 'Coulda Been' and 'It's Alright', and country Shania-like hits like 'I Could' (my personal favorite from the whole album). Also, a sweet, romantic duet 'Without You', which delivers powerful vocals yet again. This CD is sure to please any music lover with it's wide range of genres and fantastic vocals. I'm looking forward to more from Kimberley Locke, as I'm sure she'll be around for a long time.

I don't watch American Idol, so I had no idea who Kimberley Locke was when I bought this album. I made the purchase based on a review from People Magazine. I am so glad I decided to give this artist a chance. She has an amazing voice. The first five songs alone sound as though we'll be hearing them on Rick Dees top 40 countdown in the near future. It was certainly money well spent. I highly recommend this artist.
