4.0 out of 5 stars Great Debut
You know, Kimberly Locke was such a huge personality on American Idol II that I was afraid she would alienate large audiences more used to the packaged popstars usually crammed down our collective throats. I was pleasantly surprised when she made it to the final 3 contestants that season and even more pleasantly surprised to see her album on the future releases section...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Safe CD
Week after week Kimberley Locke dazzled audiences with her smooth vocals and contagious personality. It was no surprise that she wasn't crowned the American Idol, however, with her powerhouse voice, a record deal was almost guaranteed. Close to a year after her departure from the show Kimbereley has dropped her first album, One Love, a collection of all the usual...

You know, Kimberly Locke was such a huge personality on American Idol II that I was afraid she would alienate large audiences more used to the packaged popstars usually crammed down our collective throats. I was pleasantly surprised when she made it to the final 3 contestants that season and even more pleasantly surprised to see her album on the future releases section of Amazon. Now that the album is out, almost exactly a year after AI2 ended, listening to it shows it was worth the wait.

Kimberly breezes through a handful of genres - nothing too heavy or complex, but all of the songs are perfectly suited to her voice and range. Highlights include 8th World Wonder, a perfectly-crafted pop song, Have You Ever Been in Love, a perfectly-crafted, guitar-driven love song, and the quirky but catchy It's Alright, a little pop ditty about acceptance and friendship. The duet with Clay is also good, and it's nice to see their friendship has translated into artistic collaboration as well.

It's a unique thing being able to watch someone go from complete obscurity to pop star status, but of all the people I've watched on American Idol, I think Kimberly (and Clay) handled it with more dignity and style than anyone else. Through extreme makeovers and stylists/publicists/agents trying to make her 'into' something, it's gratifying to see she held her ground and produced an album that shows she already knew who she wanted to be and had the guts to do it her way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise, May 5, 2004

I am one of those people who didn't watch American Idol 2, and don't enjoy such karoke type shows, but was convinced by my crazy little sister to purchase 'One Love'. I was pleasantly surprised by how great it is. Kimberley's vocals captured me in her jazz-filled bluesy rendition of 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow'. She was able to renew the song, make it her own, and make someone who utterly loathed the song, completely love it. Her heart-felt version of Bonnie Raitt's 'I Can't Make You Love Me' is powerful and heart-moving. Now the rest of the CD is also very good. From beautiful ballads like 'Before', gospel-like 'Now I Can Fly', rock cuts like "Wrong' and 'Have You Ever Been In Love', to fun pop tunes like 'Coulda Been' and 'It's Alright', and country Shania-like hits like 'I Could' (my personal favorite from the whole album). Also, a sweet, romantic duet 'Without You', which delivers powerful vocals yet again. This CD is sure to please any music lover with it's wide range of genres and fantastic vocals. I'm looking forward to more from Kimberley Locke, as I'm sure she'll be around for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD, June 5, 2004

I don't watch American Idol, so I had no idea who Kimberley Locke was when I bought this album. I made the purchase based on a review from People Magazine. I am so glad I decided to give this artist a chance. She has an amazing voice. The first five songs alone sound as though we'll be hearing them on Rick Dees top 40 countdown in the near future. It was certainly money well spent. I highly recommend this artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars *** Versatility and Range ***, May 8, 2004
This review is from: One Love (Audio CD)
I like Kelly Clarkson, but it took some time for Kelly's songs to grow on me, having to listen to them several times. With both Clay Aiken's and Kimberley Locke's CDs, I liked every single song on both CDs first time through. It shows off Kimberley's voice beautifully, showcasing all of her powerful yet soulful voice. She has grown a great deal since leaving American Idol. She was good on American Idol, but she is even better now. I believe there's a song for everyone on this CD. With my wide range in musical taste, I loved every song. I am, and always have been, a fan of Kimberley's voice (even through the first few weeks when she was in the bottom three on AI - she was my favorite from the beginning receiving most all of my votes throughout the competition). The duet with her and Clay Aiken on the CD deserves an honorable mention. Their two voices blend and harmonize perfectly. I'm very proud, and impressed, with what Kimberley has done here!! I now look forward to both hers and Clay's second CDs, as well as Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia's first CDs.

I AM IN AWE OF KIMBERLEY LOCKE, HER BEAUTY AND TALENT ARE AMAZING.

this album has something for everyone, pop, r&b and dance. kimberley's voice and this debut album release reminds me of whitney houston when she first burst on the scene. while in the airport, waiting to catch my flight home i read a review of kimberley's album in people magazine, and i was very disappointed to hear only 2 1/2 stars. the writer seems to think that kimberley should have come out with a jazzy r&b cd. why? kimberley should not be put into a box like we do to every other singer. she did the right thing, this album has everything.

SUPPORT FOR KIMBERLEY IN TENNESSEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For an album that received so many mixed reviews, I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is actually one of the better albums I have heard released in a very long time. Kimberley has been known as having powerful vocals that shined on the ballads she sang and maybe that's what people were expecting, but I am glad that she mixed it up a bit on the album. It features some great pop tracks, some R&B fueled ones, and a couple great ballads. I think the album showcases her voice beautifully and there is not a single track I don't enjoy. With an least 3 or 4 potential hits, this is an album she should be proud of. Everybody who has heard me playing this album has fallen in love with it. I look forward to future releases from her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review for "One Love" by Kimberley Locke, August 4, 2004

As someone else already mentioned, the track "Wrong", which is soon to be released as a single I believe, does indeed sound very similar to "Miss Independent". But the message given in "Wrong" is much more powerful than that of Kelly Clarkson's hit "Miss Independent". Aside from "Wrong", the rest of the CD is very original. This CD explores a variety of music. "Coulda Been", "You've Changed", "Now I Can Fly", "8th World Wonder", and "Wrong" are among the highlights of the album. Even the "bonus tracks" section which consists of cover versions of "I Can't Make You Love Me" and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" does the album justice. Definetely worth a listen; a better investment than any other American Idol contestant CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars They did it again, May 21, 2004

The variety of songs on this CD is great. The songs are fresh and you can easily listen to the whole CD without having to hit the skip button. She has a duet with Clay for the Clay fanatics. I am making a bet that Tamyra's CD is just as good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Album from Season 2 Finalist, May 4, 2004
By

Kimberley may have only made third place in American Idol season 2, but her debut album is certainly a number 1!!! The twelve tracks show K-Lo's talent and versatility. She is comfortable doing uptempo songs as well as ballads. There is also a duet with her roommate and good friend, Clay Aiken.

Kimberley will be making joyful music for years to come.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: One Love (Audio CD)
Do you enjoy fantastic, powerful and controlled voices? An eclectic mix of songs that are catchy and showcase such voices? Then this is the album for you. Kimberley Locke has such an amazing voice that she manages to be jazzy and soulful while still creating popular hits and sweet catchy tracks. The album starts off good and gets even better as it goes along. My favorite track is "Without You" a duet with Clay Aiken. They have two of the best voices out there right now. I would place Kimberley Locke with Mariah Carey or any of the top female artists out there right now. It's time that she gets the recognition she deserves. This girl is setting the foundation for a solid, long lasting career.
