Book Description

No one does wickedly funny and irresistibly steamy like New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands—especially in this red-hot romance between a reluctant vampire and the beauty who needs his help.

Luck be a vampire tonight . . .

When Nicole Phillips agreed to hire a housekeeper, she pictured someone a little frumpy and almost certainly female. Instead, she gets gorgeous, unmistakably male Jake Colson. The man is proving indispensable in the kitchen—and everywhere else. Except Jake might not be a mortal man at all.

. . . and every night

Who wouldn't want to be a tall, dark, powerful vampire Jake, for one. He's barely had time to adjust to his newstate before he's roped into a family favor. Still, secretly playing bodyguard to sweet, sexy Nicole is turning out to be the wildest ride of his life. First, he'll put a stop to whoever's targeting her. Then he'll prove that this kind of love, and luck, happens only once in an eternity.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the high points in the series September 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Stephano Jacob Colson Notte, or Jake Colson as he now goes by, was horrified when he learned at 18 his stepfather, mother, and younger half-brother are blood sucking, mind controlling vampires (immortals). That turned to anger when he was changed after nearly dying 3 years ago. After he learned to care for himself, he walked away from his family to start a new life. This new life and career as a body guard has brought him to Nicole's doorstep. Nicole doesn't believe her string of unfortunate events is an attempt on her life but her family friend Marguerite (yep, she's matchmaking again!) does and secretly hires Jake to protect her by posing as a housekeeper/chef.

I thought Jake abandoning his family after they showed him nothing but love and patience was childish and uncalled for so my expectations weren't high for this book. Nicole's arrival changed that. Nicole married a smooth talker but once the honeymoon was over, he showed his real self and it wasn't pretty. With a gentle mental nudge from Marguerite, Nicole filed for divorce but the money grubbing husband wasn't happy. A couple of near misses later, Jake is at her house and protecting her from any more "accidents" until the divorce is final.

Nicole is sweet, has a surprising naughty side, and is Jake's lifemate so he must reveal the immortal world to her and explain what he is. Coupled with Nicole's understanding and acceptance, it finally clicks in his head that immortals aren't monsters and it's not a curse to be one. Finally! Jake's a good guy that needs a great woman to show him the error of his ways and Nicole needs a man that will cherish not use her and that's exactly what both get.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Laughter is Back!! September 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I first picked up an Argeneau novel many, many moons ago, I fell in love with this series. In fact, this was the first series of books I bought when I got my first Kindle and I have been avidly awaiting each new release, pre-ordering them months in advance, just to make sure I would get the next book as soon as it was released and often getting up early to start reading as soon as the download is complete. I have to say that I am really glad I did that with this book.

This is the 19th book in the Argeneau Series if you include the Rogue Hunters into it, and of course I do. So, there is a formula to these stories that is generally accepted. The characters have instant attraction, fall into bed almost immediately and begin a Happily Ever After in less than a week, but lets be honest, would you really want it any other way?!?! This story is mostly this formulated story that we've come to love, but there were some exciting new aspects to this story that I wasn't expecting. The whole story has you thinking one thing, then BAM!! All of a sudden you realize you were wrong and you have to rethink half the story. It was such an interesting plot development.

I am also thrilled that the laughter was back in this story. I loved the first few books so much because there were so many times that I would laugh out loud while I was reading and I have missed that from the last couple of books. I'm glad that has returned. I know more than one person looked at me strangely while I was laughing hysterically in the lounge on campus while I was reading. Also, there are a lot of old characters back in this book, most are briefly mentioned but it was good to see some old friends.

The absolute best part of this book is Stephano/Jake.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok read September 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read all the books in this series. This was Ok. It was slow in a lot of places and there were times that the plot fell flat. The ending was very hurried and left you with a feeling of being let down. Not as great as the majority of these books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Has lost her touch September 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had waited several months for this read and I must say that out of all her books this one was a disappointment. It read as if someone else had written the book instead of Ms. Sands. As if it were churned out just to meet the demand. The ending left me hanging. I feel like I missed something. Had I known how bad it was, I would have saved my money for the part two new Ann Rice werewolf book. Sorry folks.

2.0 out of 5 stars Out of luck... September 28, 2013
By Jskinz
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was so disappointed mainly because I read this book already, it was a called A Quick Bite. If Lynsay wanted to revisit the carefree bumbling vampire mystery style that started it all I don't get why she did it for this book, it would have made more sense to do it for the 20th book. So much of this book was silly and made no sense starting with Jake's name. We were already introduced to this character as Stephano Notte in A Bite to Remember, so now having him go by Jake Colson made no sense. I get that he was upset about being turned, but since his family always knew where he was it kind of defeated the point. It almost seemed like Sands had written the outline for this book, and then decided she wanted to connect him to the Argeneau/Notte families but for some reason preferred the name Jake over Stephano, so she came up with this silly explanation. Also Jake is the worst bodyguard in the world, most of the confusion in this story should never have happened. Some minor investigative work and a few quick background checks should've been done. Jake hired a locksmith, a security company, and Dan as backup. But he never hired a tech guy or PI to do a few quick checks? I don't know if I will be continuing on with this series. I do want to read Justin Bricker's story but who knows when she'll get around to it, or if it will be any good.
