Editorial Reviews

Tommy Stinson has worn many hats over his 30 years in the rock n' roll business -- from founding member of seminal band The Replacements to bassist of Guns N' Roses and Soul Asylum, and his own bands Bash & Pop and Perfect. His experience shines through on ''One Man Mutiny,'' his most textured and balanced work to date. Filled with slide guitar-laden riff rockers and lush ballads alike, Tommy shows that he is at his best when he's in the driver's seat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Under the Radar September 8, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
Is it possible that one of the best rock albums of the year will go largely unheard except for a notoriously dedicated group of fans? Yes. It happens all the time, and it's happening right now with this latest release from Replacements/Bash and Pop/Perfect/Gun `n' Roses/Soul Asylum alumnus-member and solo artist Tommy Stinson.

One Man Mutiny feels loose, spontaneous, and effortless; it's like Tommy woke up one morning, shrugged his shoulders, and knocked out a slew of Faces-esque tunes. While he hasn't penned as many classic tunes as former band mate Paul Westerberg (who apparently provided some feedback into these songs), he shares much of Westerberg's melodic sensibilities. Although Westerberg continues to release good-to-great music with some jaw-dropping classics, One Man Mutiny has more life and bite than Paul has managed in a few years on a single release. One Man Mutiny crackles with vibrancy and drive. Highlights include "All this Way for Nothing," the countryish "Zero to Stupid," and the defiant title track, though there is not one truly weak track to be found here.

This is not an album that will dominate, or even dent, the charts, but it doesn't need to. One Man Mutiny will stand as a great rock album, and the few who hear it will be greatly rewarded. Most highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy this record!!! October 27, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This record has been out for a month or so, and only three bloody reviews?? Listen readers... plain and simple... if you worship at the altar of the Replacements, arguably the greatest band of the past 30 years, if you love the Stones circa Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street... if you cherish Hank Williams, the Faces, even Green Day and Foo Fighters who were inspired by the music this man helped create, if you just love rock and roll, then but this record. God o mighty if only Paul Westerberg could put out a record as sharp and beautifully sloppy as this one... Kudos Tommy. I feel the spirit of Paul, Chris and your sorely missed brother Bob on this record, and (with a tip of the hat to Paul and Glenn Campbell's recent exquisite rendition) a whole bunch of other ghosts on your canvas. Awesome!!

4.0 out of 5 stars One Man Mutiny: Vintage Tommy Stinson August 31, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Tommy Stinson is all about the music. He doesn't hide behind production. He plays rock n roll. I've only listened to this twice, and I can safely say that this one will be in heavy rotation for awhile. There are instances where it sounds very 'Mats/Stones-ish and that is a good thing...a very good thing.

Hard to beat the download price, just under $7. You've bought worse lunches for more. Do yourself a favor and buy this album. Very solid.
