If you happen to like books which are impossible to quit reading, this is one you must buy. However, being a large, well designed book mandates caution - other responisiblities will be easily forgotten in the Dr. Jones' writing and wonderful color photos.

My personal hunting library has grown over the years, and now number well over 200 titles. Dr. Jones' volume deserves to be recommended reading for every big game hunter, regardless of his personal aspirations or abilities, a distinction shared by few hunting books. However, the incorporation of a modified "peer-review" process in the development of this book is essentially unprecendented in the hunting literature. By utilizing this process and the input of several experts, J.Y.'s book is becomes the most authoritive book on NA big game. More importantly, he has established a model which should be closely followed by outdoor writers everywhere. I hope this proves to be the legacy of this book.

When I received this book I was surprised at its size. It is larger in format and thicker than you will expect, and given the high quality glossy stock on which it is printed, it's heavy.

Each chapter of the book covers another subspecies of huntable game in North America including the jaguar (which the author darts). Each chapter is broken into two parts. In the first part Dr. Jones discusses the game itself, describing its ecology and history. These sections are very informative without being dry or boring. In the second section of each chapter Dr. Jones describes his own personal hunt for the animal.

I found this book impossible to stop reading. My procedure was to read a chapter each night before bed. Unfortunately, this led to some late nights for me. Sometimes I wanted to read the next chapter so bad I stayed up another 45 minutes just to get it in!

You may never hunt musk ox, or Peary's caribou, or a desert bighorn or jaguar. But this book will make you feel like you were right there with Dr. Jones as he hunts these animals.

This is not a how to book. While there are recommendations of equipment, these hunts were all guided and Dr. Jones focuses more on describing the game and hunt itself and his experiences than he does in trying to teach the reader how to hunt a particular animal.

This is superior piece of work. You will not regret buying it, even though you may lose a little sleep.

This book is truly a hunting book.
For those who would like to know what type of hunting situation you'd encounter in north America than this book is for you.
It doesn't discuss guns and other equipment in detail, but that's exactly what make this book a HUNTING book.

This is my favorite hunting book. The stories make you want to head to the woods. It's a hard book to put down. It contains every large game animal in North America. Beautiful photograpy. Better than an encyclopedia. It is the center piece of our coffee table. I love this book.

This book is almost an encyclopedia of valuable hunting information of the north Americas top game species and in my opinion, one of the best hunting books ever written! This would be a treasured book for any serious hunter's book shelve. J.Y. has been very lucky to have been able to travel around the globe on many hunting adventures and he puts the reader next to him on the jeep seat and on the mountain top, as he carefully explains the species and the techniques and his personal experiences involved in the hunt. At nearly five pounds, 558 pages and nearly 1.5 inches thick, the book would stop a good sized bullet! But a better idea is to read and enjoy as this book will bring to you many hours of hunting enjoyment.

The great read book-One Man,One Rifle,One Land:Hunting All Species of Big Game in North America by J.Y.Jones holds your fascination all the way along.Its a great book to give an up and coming new hunter who wants to know the hunting techniques for a specific animal and the habits of that species.
I greatly enjoyed having this book.
For a seasoned veteran they will also enjoy what JY.went through,often going back another year to bag the particular species.
Dr.JY.helped facilitate getting polar bear trophies into the US.
The pictures are excellent and its well worth getting this book.

I have really enjoyed this book. The hunting stories are real with no fluff or "made up" success and fabricated for entertainment value. Mr. Jones is not arrogant and brings reality to all of his hunts and this is a great reference for study of each of the animals he pursues. If you enjoy reading great hunting adventures or simply learning more about one of the species of big game on this continent, you will enjoy! This is a huge book and very well worth the money.

This is a great account of the authors pursuit and realization of his hunting dreams - dreams that not many of us have the opportunity or ability to bring to fruition. Mr. Jones writing never fails to hold your interest and I would highly recommend his book to all. Superior stories by a superior person.

Great book! I enjoyed the format of each chapter being in two parts. One part is about the hunt and the other part of each chapter is about the animal. Very well written and hard to lay down once started.

I have known JY Jones for nearly 20 years - stood with him over a nice buck, while he thanked the "Great Spirit" for His gifts of life and liberty...His book now graces my coffee table...

While we don't agree on all the incidentals of religion and politics, JY is a committed Christian, intense in his beliefs and a lone hero for a tradition that is losing ground with the younger generation...Harvesting every species of North American big game with one rifle says a great deal about the author...He is a man of few words, intense energy, firm commitment and strong faith...I predict that in years to come this book will be a journey into the nostalgia of the preservation of colonial America...

I count JY among my good friends...
