About the Author

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION, 1999

The poetry of Berrien Springs resident Gary E. McCormick is included in "Graces: Prayers & Poems for Everyday Meals and Special Occasions", by June Cotner (HarperSanFrancisco), 1994. In addition, McCormick's poetry received honors in the 1994 Poetry Society of Michigan Contest. His poem "Who Are These Brave?" took third place in the Contemporary Poetry category and two other poems won honorable mention in other categories.

McCormick is a native of Dearborn, Michigan. He has been published in many periodicals and poetry publications. His first book of poetry, "One Of The Many Roses," was self-published in 1991. Presently, he has two poetry books and is seeking a publisher: Watching God Create The Universe and Blossoming Flowers Opening Like a Pure Thought Sing a Simple Verse. He is also working on a book of jazz poetry, with the working title: Reading Music. McCormick reads his poetry at local schools and is a regular on several open mike venues in Berrien County.

He is a graduate of the University of Detroit, 1960. He spent 13 years at Ford Motor Company in Public and Community Relations, four years in creative writing positions at two advertising agencies. He joined The Herald-Palladium, a daily newspaper in St. Joseph, Michigan, as an advertising account executive in 1974 and retired in 1998.

This review is from: One of the Many Roses (Paperback)
McCormick's collection is a fine example of what is happening in contemporary American poetry. If you're looking for ambiguity, this is not your kind of book. If you're looking for great verse steeped in beauty and carefulness, BUY THIS BOOK! Cheers to the brilliant Mr. McCormick.
