Not the best there is,
This review is from: The One-in-a-Million Baby Name Book: The BabyNames.com Guide to Choosing the Best Name for Your New Arrival (Mass Market Paperback)
I was really disappointed by the lack of in-depth information about the meanings and origins of the names. The descriptions from their website - what people thought of a person with a particular name was pretty useless. They all pretty much said the same thing - funny, kind, friendly. Blah blah blah. You're better off asking your friends and family their opinions. I think it's the only baby name book I've ever seen that did not split up boys & girls names, but this didn't bother me much. Just be aware if you prefer separate sections. I ended up returning this book to get something else.

Has probably any name you could ever imagine. The only thing I would change would be to have separate boy and girl sections instead of putting them all together.

The Best "Name" Book on the Market!,
By John Howard Reid (Wyong, NSW Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The One-in-a-Million Baby Name Book: The BabyNames.com Guide to Choosing the Best Name for Your New Arrival (Mass Market Paperback)
I must admit I've been using BabyNames.com regularly for years. After all, a fiction writer is a parent, sometimes of hundreds of children, and he/she needs the perfect name for each of his/her characters. So I awaited the publication of this book with positive eagerness. And I was not disappointed. For a writer, one of the most useful sections is "Names to Avoid". Want to find the perfect name for a heavy? There you are! Of course in my own fiction like Micaela Morris in Jo's Heaven and Other Stories and MEXICAN AUTUMN, I didn't wish to be too exotic, but at the same time I wished to avoid the over-used "Tom", "Dick" and "Harry". The "One-in-a-Million Baby Name Book" provides perfect answers to a writer's prayer.

Neither this book nor [...] are particularly credible sources for learning about personal names. The book has a lot of names, but its information about meanings, origins, and histories are woefully inaccurate. A much better book to consult is A Dictionary of First Names by Patrick Hanks, Flavia Hodges, and Kate Hardcastle.

The names are not separated by boys and girls. I know I'm having a girl and found it incredibly annoying to have to sift through a bunch of irrelevant boys names.

This is a nice book. It isn't my favorite baby name book. But it is a nice book to have. I especially like the lists in the beginning.
