5.0 out of 5 stars Bosson - the "one in a million", August 1, 2001
By Knobby (Norway) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One In a Million (Audio CD)
Bosson (pronounced "B Sahn") - Staffan Olsson - is 26 years old, is Swedish, looks like Ricky Martin and has been on tour with Britney Spears. The last single, "One In A Million" is on the latest Sandra Bullock movie "Miss Congeniality" (or that Norwegians translators have chosen to call, "Miss Undercover" - and the Swedes apparently call it "Miss Secret Angent").

His first album "The Right Time" was released a couple of years ago, and this year he was nominated for a Golden Globe for "One In A Million" for "best original song" from this year's album with the same title. The biggest hit he's had in the US of A is still "We Live" - it was played on the radio 24/7, sold well over 100,000 copies and got him a contract with Capitol Records. It all started when Kiss FM's Michael Steele called the song, "uptempo and as bright as a searchlight" and Billboard called it "a slice of sheer pop perfection".

This was the beginning for Swedish Bosson who's been singing since he was 6 years old, and says he's always wanted to be a "popstar". Lucky for him that he actually has what it takes. He was impersonating Michael Jackson a couple of years back, and according to himself he actually looked and sounded like him. "Same small nose and high cheek bones".

I got the album yesterday after listening to the first 40 seconds of "One In A Million" for about a week (after downloading it from one of his homepages). I'm known for being picky about new artists, and I'm also looking for talent and voice quality. Having all that in mind, I was maybe a bit critical at first - until I actually put the album on.

It started with "One In A Million" and I was as impressed with the rest of the song as I was of the first 40 seconds. But this is when it usually gets critical. The first song is almost always good, but when you decide to listen to the rest of the album, hoping it's as good as the first song, you're often in for a huge disappointment. I was holding my breath, hoping for his sake and mine that the next song would be as good as the first. When "I Believe" came on I thought to myself, "this has to be the next single!" It's brilliant! OK, so we both survived the first and the second song, but what about the rest? I sat down, listened to the rest of the album, and wasn't disappointed at all. It's not often I can put on an album and actually like every single song. The albums I can do that with, I can count on one hand, and now "One In A Million" by Bosson is one of them.

You get everything from ballads to up-tempo songs where every song has meaningful lyrics and the voice quality is long over certain other new artists nowadays. He's written 9 of the 12 songs himself, and if he didn't have anyone special in mind, he sure did a good job pretending. You can hear that he means every word he sings, and that's what makes this album "real".

Some artists have a good voice, but boring songs. Some artists have a voice that's not so good, but have good songs. Personally I think there are only a few artists out there who do have both. I listen to a lot of mysic, but not everything is as catchy as I'd like it to be. Now I'm tempted to compare Swedish Bosson with George Michael and Elton John - not because they have a lot in common, but because these two men know how to make music, and so does Bosson.

One In A Million.....such a great song as well as the whole album. Not only does it have me moving with the beat but my little girl as well. Being married to a Swede I learn about different singers and WOW Bosson you rock. Love the whole album.
