5.0 out of 5 stars Bosson - the "one in a million", August 1, 2001

Bosson (pronounced "B Sahn") - Staffan Olsson - is 26 years old, is Swedish, looks like Ricky Martin and has been on tour with Britney Spears. The last single, "One In A Million" is on the latest Sandra Bullock movie "Miss Congeniality" (or that Norwegians translators have chosen to call, "Miss Undercover" - and the Swedes apparently call it "Miss Secret Angent").

His first album "The Right Time" was released a couple of years ago, and this year he was nominated for a Golden Globe for "One In A Million" for "best original song" from this year's album with the same title. The biggest hit he's had in the US of A is still "We Live" - it was played on the radio 24/7, sold well over 100,000 copies and got him a contract with Capitol Records. It all started when Kiss FM's Michael Steele called the song, "uptempo and as bright as a searchlight" and Billboard called it "a slice of sheer pop perfection".

This was the beginning for Swedish Bosson who's been singing since he was 6 years old, and says he's always wanted to be a "popstar". Lucky for him that he actually has what it takes. He was impersonating Michael Jackson a couple of years back, and according to himself he actually looked and sounded like him. "Same small nose and high cheek bones".

I got the album yesterday after listening to the first 40 seconds of "One In A Million" for about a week (after downloading it from one of his homepages). I'm known for being picky about new artists, and I'm also looking for talent and voice quality. Having all that in mind, I was maybe a bit critical at first - until I actually put the album on.

It started with "One In A Million" and I was as impressed with the rest of the song as I was of the first 40 seconds. But this is when it usually gets critical. The first song is almost always good, but when you decide to listen to the rest of the album, hoping it's as good as the first song, you're often in for a huge disappointment. I was holding my breath, hoping for his sake and mine that the next song would be as good as the first. When "I Believe" came on I thought to myself, "this has to be the next single!" It's brilliant! OK, so we both survived the first and the second song, but what about the rest? I sat down, listened to the rest of the album, and wasn't disappointed at all. It's not often I can put on an album and actually like every single song. The albums I can do that with, I can count on one hand, and now "One In A Million" by Bosson is one of them.

You get everything from ballads to up-tempo songs where every song has meaningful lyrics and the voice quality is long over certain other new artists nowadays. He's written 9 of the 12 songs himself, and if he didn't have anyone special in mind, he sure did a good job pretending. You can hear that he means every word he sings, and that's what makes this album "real".

Some artists have a good voice, but boring songs. Some artists have a voice that's not so good, but have good songs. Personally I think there are only a few artists out there who do have both. I listen to a lot of mysic, but not everything is as catchy as I'd like it to be. Now I'm tempted to compare Swedish Bosson with George Michael and Elton John - not because they have a lot in common, but because these two men know how to make music, and so does Bosson.

What an awesome song by Bosson. I listen to One in a Million for hours and could never get sick of it. I first listened to it on the Ms Congeniality Soundtrack, and soon searched the web to find Bosson's other songs and imported his CD One in a Million, only to fall in LOVE with every song! I am addicted!!!!! I love the way the bass is mixed in with his voice to create such a soothing kind of beat. Just fully AMAZING :)

I first heard this song from the Miss Congeniality soundtrack and immediately loved the voice of Bosson. I bought the first import of "One in a million" and LOVED the ENTIRE C.D.! I don't know how this wonderful voice, music, and lyrics have escaped the airwaves of radio here in the U.S.! I have had everyone I know listen to the heartfelt lyrics and upbeat music of this C,D. and everyone I have talked to has wanted to hear and see more of Bosson! You are my favorite that I listen to at home, at work, and share with my friends! AWESOME!

Bosson did it again, and boy did he do it! This 2 disk set (an import from Singapore) has a handful of songs from his debut release. (Mostly remixes), Plus some new releases. I Believe, One In A Million sound great. The 2nd disk has videos from a number of his songs as long as highlights from his Singapore concerts. If you can get it...its worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very fresh music, March 7, 2002
This review is from: One in a Million (Audio CD)
I heard "I believe" on the radio, I looked for it [online], and the samples I found there where really convincing, so I did go for the whole album. I did buy dozens of CD's this year, and some of them were intrinsically "better music" : more complex, better mixed, clearer voices, ... but "one in a million" is the only one I listen to 3 times a week while working. Because the songs are romantic, hip, catchy, and always "fresh". I absolutely share the views of other reviewers that Bosson's voice is sometimes a bit "thin", but the arrangements absolutely make up for this. Some songs start good, and after a few seconds you get the impression "more of the same". But keep listening : every song is a perfectly balanced surprise, and towards the end the CD gets even better. So if you're looking for a friendly and fresh pop CD, try Bosson's "one in a million".

4.0 out of 5 stars Bosson...more of a songwriter, November 15, 2001

This album is really great. The song "One In A Million" which is the titleholder is a really nice and relaxing song that Bosson himself says is his favorite. Most of the songs are surprisingly written by Bosson. The melodies are really catchy and as a songwriter Bosson would score all the five stars. Sadly but true, I think the vocals are a bit tiring. Maybe it's the choir together with Bosson, or maybe it's just my opinion, because my friend do not agree...so. However I like this album in it's entirety, and my absolutley fave song is "Stay"...and of course "We Will Meet Again"....and also "All Because of You" and...I could go on forever. Can't name one only. The most outstanding part on the album is in the last song, "We Will Meet Again". Bosson starts a soft-rapping part, and I start to wonder if he isn't in the wrong genre. Maybe he would do even better as a rapper...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bosson is One In A Million, September 14, 2003
This review is from: One in a Million (Audio CD)
Just by coincidence I came across the song "One In A Million". I loved it from the first time I listened to it and it wasn't long before I decided to buy the whole album. My initial concerns about not liking the rest of the songs were swept away before too long: the rest of the album is just as good, if not better.

The album has two version of "One In A Million, one slow and one more upbeat. Especially the remix will stay in your thoughts a long time after listening to it, but the best part are the lyrics that make it one of the best love songs ever written. A+

There are no less than 3 version of "I Believe" on the album. I like the original, but the remixes are a little too fast paced for me. It has a good potential to be a hit, especially the chorus. A-

The third song of the album, "We Live", is perhaps the most catchy tune on the cd. When you're feeling down, it'll bring a smile on your face instantly. A

"Where Are You" is a song about waiting for the right person to come along. It lacks the conviction of the other songs on the album and sounds a bit sadder, but sweet all the same. Not one of my favorites, but there is an awesome part near the end. B

The next song, called "Over The Mountains" builds on the same idea as "Where Are You", except that this time it's about actively trying to find that special someone. It sounds like it came straight from the heart. Great for a slow dance with someone you care about. B+

"Holy In My Heart" is one of the more poppier songs on the album: it's hard not to move to the music when listening to this one. If you don't know the words it is hard to believe it's a song about a lost love. A

The next song, "I Don't Want To Say Goodbye" is about being cheated on ... ouch! You can feel the pain when listening to this one. There is a brief part later in the song I would have done differently, but all in all it is a great song! A+

"Stay" is radically different from the other songs on the album. It doesn't have the same "smoothness" as the other songs on the album, which makes it an excellent break in the track list. A

The sappiest song on the album is probably "All Because Of You". It is smooth, sappy and the choir is a bit overused, but in the end it's still a catchy song. The accompanying cheerful music does get too much at times though. B+

"Let Your Soul Shine" is one of the few songs that have not been written by Bosson. It is a good song, but I miss Bosson's way with words. B

"This Is Our Life" has a great introduction with Bosson whispering the first few words. It is a well paced, well written song that will speak to hearts of lovers everywhere if it were to be released on single. A+

The last song was a Very pleasent surprise: slow, sweet and sad at the same time and one that will stay with you for a long time. It has a great build up from the verses to the chorus and sounds better every time you listen to it. Listen for the rap near the end ... it is great! A+

I wish Amazon would be able to sale all of Bosson's CD's. He's an amazing singer, evoking dormant romantic feelings in anyone. He may not be that popular in America but his songs are just great melodies. I would recommend this and other Bosson's CD's to anyone, anytime!!!!
