Book Description

June 17, 2008

In the first novella by the New York Times bestselling author of the Reverend Curtis Black series, a wife and a husband receive a surprise that will change their lives forever

Kennedi Mason thinks she's the luckiest woman on earth. She loves her job, she has a wonderful best friend, and she's been married for ten years to her soul mate. There's nothing she can think of that could make her life any better.

Then one fateful day Kennedi receives a piece of news that will turn her world upside down. She's excited about it, and she knows that her husband, Blake, will be over the moon. He has always dreamed of this one thing happening, and she can't wait until he comes home so she can tell him.

But when she sees Blake that evening, he has a special announcement of his own. It shocks Kennedi into silence and wipes the admission she was planning to make right out of her mind. In an instant, her life and her marriage have changed, but not at all in the way that she had expected.

A poignant and satisfying story of hope, Kimberla Lawson Roby's One in a Million beautifully shows us the difference between what we think we want and what we actually need to be truly happy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Never in a Million Years August 7, 2008
Format:Hardcover
Kimberla Lawson Roby brought it with a bang in One In A Million. Kennedi Mason thinks life is great and could not get any better. That is, until she finds out some great news that she thinks will make her life that much more fulfilling. She cannot wait to share the news with her husband. But he has some news that he wants to share first. Both announcements will make a strong impact on the rest of their lives.

This is Roby's first novella and she did a great job. It was short, full of entertainment, and to the point. Some of these events, you do not think would happen in a million years. Well they all happen in One In A Million. Her fans will love this read. I definitely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars "...Chance Of A Lifetime!" June 17, 2008
Format:Hardcover
Kennedi Mason thinks that she has the perfect marriage with her husband Blake. After years of hoping and dreaming about this special moment, Kennedi can't wait to share the good news with her husband...news that will change their lives for the better. But when Blake gets home, he has some news of his own that will turn Kennedi's world into a tailspin. The aftermath of Kennedi and Mason's announcements will set forth a series of events where lies and betrayal are uncovered. Kennedi will soon find out that perception is not reality.

One in a Million is an intriguing novella by Kimberla Lawson Roby. Roby hooks the reader in from the first page beginning with Kennedi's good news. As you start reading the first few pages, you will think that you know what Kennedi's news is until you get to the last few sentences at the end of the first chapter. The jaw-dropping twist comes so early in the story that readers will be flipping the pages trying to find out what's going to happen next. You will also see how Kennedi saw only what she wanted to see in regards to her marriage. Fans of Roby's previous novels will see a small cameo appearance by the Rev. Curtis Black in this story, but this novella isn't about him. One in a Million is dramatic and insightful. Kimberla Lawson Roby once again brought a story that her legion of fans will enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK July 11, 2008
By Buffy
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have read all but the last book in the Curtis Black series and thoroughly enjoyed those, so I was quite eager to get this one (I know it is not a part of the series, but I like her writing). I must say that I was a bit disappointed in this book. I got the audio book. While I would not have guessed the little twist in the end, I think the book was predictable. I know she could have done better than she did with this book. Some things just happened too quickly and a bit unrealistically.

I am still looking forward to reading 'Sin No More'.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing July 23, 2008
Format:Hardcover
I am an avid Kimberla Lawson Roby reader and I must say that I am terribly disappointed in this book. Fist of all it's too short of a story and seemed to be rushed. I feel cheated after reading all of her other great books. this should have been a paperback and priced accordingly.

I will not give up on you Ms. Roby, but if you are reading this please let your next book follow your previous ones. (longer and more substance)

Still a fan

1.0 out of 5 stars QUICK SUMMER READ July 30, 2008
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I've read all of Kimberla Lawson-Roby novels. This one was just an ok book that I read in 2 days. This story line can happen to anyone...Bad marriage, best friend, no good relatives, greed, and a large amount of money. Roby also mentions very quickly Rev. Curtis Black, his wife and kids. When I got to this part of the novel I said oh no, not again. Nothing else can be said about this man, please shut him down for good. I guess she put his character in as a teaser to make sure we read the entire book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ready, Set, Action!!!! July 15, 2008

Kimberla Lawson Roby does it again! Her newest novella, One In A Million, captures your attention in the first chapter and the action continues!!!. Kennedi has it all... a nice home, career and most importantly, a loving husband. When Kennedi learns of her newest blessings she can't wait to share the news with her husband. Only Kennedi's husband has news of his own, news that will devastate the once happy couple.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dull and Boring! October 29, 2008
By Lee
Format:Hardcover
Uninteresting and not much of a story. This book was just plain dull and 'sooooo' boring. The plot was too phony and unrealistic -- totally unbelievable. Kimberla Lawson Roby threw this book together and didn't spend much time and effort to put some depth into the story line. Don't waste your money or time on this book -- it's awful! Sorry Kimberla, but as one of your biggest fans, I didn't enjoy this book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Is Kimberla's contract ending? September 28, 2008
Format:Hardcover
The general plot was new and refreshing. However, I was very disappointed with the novel's flow. The character development and overall plot was subpar for Kimberla Lawson Roby. Kennedi was immaturally begging her husband to stay, then all of a sudden she is this strong willed woman who doesn't want anything to do with him...I missed the transition. Much of the dialog amongst the characters sounded more like preaching about relationships, people don't actually "talk" to each other in that manner. Kennedi's husband was typical, but again, there was no transition leading up to his change of behavior. Initially, he seemed like a good person who just felt like Kennedi was no longer the one for him; then, he became this crazed I-want-a-Jerry-Springer-guest-spot fool. And the "finale" was very weak. The story went from telling a woman's tale of recovery to a soap opera in the last chapter. You mean to tell me Kennedi's high priced attorneys weren't able to dig any of that up?
